Flights to South Africa from the US

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have made the trip - which airport do you recommend? Jo-berg, Durban or Cape Town?

I know American flys the route, anyone else I'm not thinking of right now? Lufthansa maybe?

Thanks for any help.

I need to go see the rocks pretty bad...if I wait until the time is right, I'll never make it - so fuck it...it's time to go! B|

I've flown into Johannesburg and had no problems.

British Airways, KLM, and United are a few additional options.

Happy rock hunting. B|

We flew South African Air a few years ago. They were great, and highly recommended by our South African friends. We had a chicago to atlanta, the direct to Cape Town. But now it looks like they only fly direct to Jo-berg.

Right now it's $1,500 to Jo-berg. For an extra $50 I change planes in Jo-berg and go to Cape Town.

When I went a few years ago I went on an affiliate of Delta Airlines, unfortunately I don't remember the name of the actual airline.
I flew from Detroit to ATL, then ATL to J-berg for a brief stop--we didn't even get off the plane, then we went onto Capetown. 23 hours later, I was there! B|

I assume you were on South African Air. They are an affiliate of Delta. I only that because I recieved Delta sky Miles for my entire trip.

He is a sweety! Getting a rock from Steve is like receiving flowers or hugs from the other boys. :D It's quite the honor. ;)

Depends on which rocks you need to get to.
If your rocks are in the Western Cape, you may want to pick an airline that flys (via Joburg) on to Cape Town.
Generally, fly in to Joburg and you can get a local flight to anywhere you need from the same airport.
