lawrocket 3 #1 January 8, 2006 Vince Young will not be returning to Texas next year, unless itis as a Houston Texan or as a player for another team visiting. UT just lost its entire starting offense. THis sets up some interesting scenarios for Houston? Will they scrap David Carr and trade him for other considerations to make space for Vince Young, who has the city in Vince-mania? Or take Regie Bush? Or what? My wife is hotter than your wife.
airtwardo 7 #2 January 8, 2006 We really don't NEED another 1st round QB... BUT DAMN!!!! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
GrendelKhan 0 #3 January 8, 2006 THis is eerily similar to the Rockets having to chose between MJ and Hakeem. They didn't need a guard, they needed a dominant center, which they got in the legenday Hakeem. But they also passed ont he greatest player in the history of the game. Yes, they did win two championshps with Hakeem, but that was only because MJ was retired. Now, I'm not saying that Vince Young is the Mj of football, but it has to give Casserly pause knowing that Vince is a once in a lifetime athlete. lawrocket 3 #4 January 8, 2006 QuoteVince is a once in a lifetime athlete. That is understood, but how is he as a quarterback. I'm not a fan of the spread offense because there hasn't been anyone who has shown that it can work well in the NFL. An eerily similar type guy to Young was Kordell Stewart. The guy had a cannon arm and was accurate, as well as having speed and size. Kordell's problem was that he couldn't read defenses, which at the NFL level made him unable to be a great quarterback. Hey, he was competent, but eventually it was figured out that the guy was a better receiver than quarterback. Time will tell whether Vince Young is another spread QB flash-in-the-can. airtwardo 7 #5 January 8, 2006 Time will tell whether Vince Young is another spread QB flash-in-the-can. *** I was kind of thinking that way too... No doubt he is a talented athlete, and has undeniable creds... NFL quarterback?? who knows, it's a much faster game on that next level...Houston has a good qb now, they need an all pro RB & TE or WR... Should be an interesting draft... But what do I know...I never thought Jim Mc Mahon would be able to keep up with the 'speed' in the pros! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
GrendelKhan 0 #6 January 9, 2006 The only argument I've heard that I liked in regard sto how well Vince will perform in the NFl had to do with the pro-style program that Pete Carroll runs at USC. I know you all remember hearing about how ready for the big time everybody at USC is because of the level of preparation and training that they receive. I heard mor ethan one sportscaster declare that USC could beat some of the bottom feeders in the NFL (*cough* Texans *cough*). So if USC is as close to a pro-team as you can get in college, what does that mean for Vince smoking them like sausages? The only way to really know if he'll suceed or not is to let him try. On the other hand in the modern NFL success is often measured just as much by income generated as by games won. Vince will sell some tickets after a dismal season whether he's any good or not. If he's not, they can draft the next flash in the pan hot commodity to sell some more tickets. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm." lawrocket 3 #7 January 9, 2006 Jim: An all pro running back & TE or WR for Houston? I actually tend to think that they really need an offensive line. Barry Sanders and Gale Sayers are the only backs I can think of who could ever actually run between the bellies of 300 pound linemen. Without a running game, they gotta rely on the passing attack. Without blocking, David Carr's getting killed back there, Quotehe only argument I've heard that I liked in regard sto how well Vince will perform in the NFl had to do with the pro-style program that Pete Carroll runs at USC. That's all hype about USC. USC has a pro-level offense, but they also were not the defensive team this year that they were last year. The secondary was acceptable for college, but not in the NFL. Bing was pretty good, and Ware was all right, but the problem is the ability to have linebackers cover in the zone. QuoteSo if USC is as close to a pro-team as you can get in college, what does that mean for Vince smoking them like sausages? It means just that - USC is as close as you can get to an NFL defense in college, which doesn't bode so well. Look, I'm not dissing Young. I think one of the main reasons why we have had such shitty QB's in the NFL these past few years has been because colleges are running the spread offense based upon guys like Young, Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick, etc. Back 15 years ago when Buddy Ryan told Randall Cunningham to go run and make something happen, he was spectacular until he got so beaten up. Kordell was supposed to do the same thing. Vick is doign it now, which is why his QB stats aren't that great and his running stats are dropping. McNabb learned to read defenses and became more of a pocket passer. Even Steve Young quit scrambling so much since it meant scrambling his brain. NFL is a higher level, faster, stronger and meaner. Vince Young has had the pleaure of never being run down by a 250 pound linebacker who is as fast as he is. There is one per team in the NFL. I think that Vince Young can learn to read defenses and be a pocket passer who has the makings of a fierce scrambler. I haven't seen it from Vick, and never saw it from Kordell. For the sake of Young's health, I hope whoever gets him sits him for a year to get the feel for the game. My wife is hotter than your wife.
airtwardo 7 #8 January 9, 2006 QuoteWithout blocking, David Carr's getting killed back there, *** He has some blocking...granted not the 85 Bears kind...but you have to have someone open to throw to...that he definitely hasn't had this year. Fouts was a molasses slow QB with an average line...but the RECIVERS were always top drawer, that makes the game! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
lawrocket 3 #9 January 9, 2006 It's hard to get a lineup like Wes Chandler, Charlie Joiner and Kellen Winslow with today's salary structures. Dont' forget he had Chuck Muncie to hand the ball to, who ran great when there was cocaine in the end zone for him (the same motivation as those great 1990's Dallas offenses. Quote HEE HEE HEE...'Ole White Line Fever' Muncie.... I knew Chuck back then, I worked as a bouncer in a popular strip club in Sandy Eggo...Chuck was a 'regular'...and in fact I 'partied' a few times with he, Louie Kelcher, Big Hands Johnson...several of the 'boyz' Don't know if you remember the 'calling in sick' game that eventually was Muncies downfall... He called Coach Don to say he was in Hawaii and couldn't make it to the game in 5 hours..."Air C" sent a limo to his house and they dragged him to Jack Murphy Stadium....well...I was at a party the night before where 'White Line' was enhancing his performance, guess he went a bit TOO far that night!! I have a signed ball....and an actual 46 game jersey...he gave me the ball....we ahhh 'traded' for the shirt! Edited to add: I ended up working a few years later at an aerospace plant in East County...I got set up with and went out a few times with Kellen's ex-wife who was working in the office ...back when Kellen Jr. was 8-9 years old....and damn near as big as ME! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
BillyVance 35 #11 January 9, 2006 For some reason, I believe Vince Young is the real deal. His height and size, as well as his speed and scrambling ability and passing, will make him the #1 pick in the NFL draft, bar none. I will be shocked if someone else gets picked first. Sure, he's going to meet his match from time to time, but he'll do better than average."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
