yamtx73 0 #1 January 8, 2006 I caught part of a movie this morning, basic premise was to do something big for 3 people, instead of them returning the favor they were to do something big for 3 other people, etc.... Out of curiousity, would this work? The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...
Meux 0 #2 January 8, 2006 Haven't seen the movie, not sure what "big" is. How about doing little things for people. It's easier and you can do more than 3. Heck, you could do 3 a day. What's that thing about Random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty or something like that. As of today, it is impossible for me to ever repay in any way all the senselessly beautiful things that someone has done for me. But I should try anyway. Out of curiousity, would this work? It does work. The other name for this is "casting one's bread upon the waters." No one ever knows when they'll be the victim of a random act of senseless kindness, but for me, it always happens when I need it most. There's only one way to continue that cycle. Discern a need, and if it strikes a chord within you, assuage it. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. squirrel 0 #4 January 8, 2006 that is a great movie. when i used to work retail, i followed the montra "kill-em with kindness." it was great. a customerer would come in, bitching and screaming, and walla...i would actually listen, and try to fix thier problem. it was cool to "spin" the situation. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? lawrocket 3 #5 January 8, 2006 It's bound to work! Do something nice for three people and don't expect them to do it for you but for someone else. It turns out that acts of kindness work wonderfully when you expect nothing personally in return. You feel better about yourself, which always "works." My wife is hotter than your wife. Vertifly 0 #7 January 8, 2006 Yeah it works; it is called Christmas. I know that acts of kindness can be more than just getting gifts but the holidays just get bigger every year - so it seems.

micro 0 #11 January 8, 2006 It absolutely works. It's been a guiding principle in lives of my wife and me. TrophyHusband 0 #12 January 8, 2006 i see it happen all the time at the dz. someone closes someone elses rig for no reason, a rigger attatches soft links for no charge, a group of up jumpers invites a low timer on their jump, someone fixes a broken camera switch, someone not on staff greats you in the landing area, takes your tandem rig and points you towards your next student. little things like this happen every day and they are paid forward without thought, as it should be. monkycndo 0 #15 January 9, 2006 I'm a firm believer in pay it forward. I had a teacher that taught it to his classes. I have been on both sides of the equation. In high school, an elderly lady blew a tire in front of my house that was out in the boonies, way before cell phones were common. I changed it for her and refused any compensation. Just asked her to pay it forward. A short time later, I fell asleep while driving home and totaled my car. It was near midnight and a guy I didn't know stopped, picked me up and delivered me home. It was far out of his way. He asked for nothing. That is just one example for me. Oh ya, I'm a firm believer in making deposits in the karma bank. You never know when you are going to need to make a withdrawal and it would suck to have nothing there.50 donations so far. Give it a try. mnealtx 0 #17 January 9, 2006 Yes, it works. I've helped numerous people, and never expected one red cent back. The only thing I've ever told them was "when you can, help someone else that needs it". It DOES work...but you have to have faith that it will. I have faith.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

skybytch 273 #20 January 9, 2006 QuoteIt DOES work...but you have to have faith that it will. I agree, but would change "have faith that it will" to "not care if it does." Help people when they need help, then forget about it. If you help 10 people and only 3 pay it forward to someone else, it's not the 7 who didn't that are important, it's the fact that 3 people out there got help when they needed it. mnealtx 0 #21 January 9, 2006 G'morning Lisa... That's a very good point, but I'm not 100% sure I agree with it. To me, the reward is that I was able to help someone that needed it... that makes it worth it all by itself. If someone I've helped passes it forward to another person that needs help, then that's a bonus all the way around!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim.
