What does the HR stand for in HR Huffnpuff? I need to find out fast. My boss is asking and he thinks I'm the one that knows everything (thank you Google).

HELP!

It's HR Pufnstuf and I can't remember what HR stands for.

Searching now. :P

The main clue is the title character, H.R. Pufnstuf, whose last name sounds a lot like "Puffing stuff." The title "H.R." is never explained on the show, and many interpreted it as code for "Hand Rolled," with Pufnstuf's title of Mayor also being short for "marijuana." Pufnstuf is green with red hair, just like cannabis buds.

... still looking

Well I can't find anything to explain the H.R. But, this is one of those strange shows that left me in an emotional limbo: I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either, or as Caine would say on 'Kung Fu', "it simply existed". And exist it did! Man, there was a whole lotta weirdness goin' down on this show, weirdness that no 7 year old kid should ever be subjected to. Somebody was definitely on a bad acid trip when they penned this show. Mother of god, I WANTED to turn the channel folks, but when you're hopelessly lost in emotional limbo all you can do is sit and gape blankly at the screen, your life-force sucked into the horrors on the phosphor dot tube, your will at the mercy of the golden flute. May god have mercy on my soul.

I don't think it was ever explained..
Ya got me looking for it too! haha
Here's all I found:

H.R. Pufnstuf introduced the Kroffts' most-used plot scenario, revolving around a boy ("Jimmy", played by Jack Wild) who had accidentally stumbled into an alternate fantasy world. The leader of the community of this world was a friendly dragon named H.R. Pufnstuf (played by Van Snowden and voiced by Lennie Weinrib, who also wrote the episodes)

Can't believe I am still looking for this answer! haha

I found some more stuff relating to question:

"I don't remember which show, but one of the other Krofft shows once had H.R. as a guest star. They were all caught by the villainess
(ever notice the large number of "wicked witch" types on the Krofft shows?),
who announced her intent to cook and eat them all. The one line that sticks out in my mind today when I think of Pufnstuf is him saying:

"Madame, I object. You can't cook a mayor!"

In Ye Olde Days, the post of mayor was minor nobility in many areas, and titles like Lord Mayor were not uncommon. H.R. may stand for one of these titles, like His Regal/Royal, or Honorable Regent or so forth.
