kalaniwavo 0 #1 March 11, 2008 I just bought a new Viso digital altimeter and have a few questions about normal operation. Ok, today on my way to work I was going to drive down my long steep hill on my way to work and see how my new altimeter works. (its a good 800ft. decent to the bottom) During the drive down my altimeter would only change altitude every 5 or 6 seconds and would jump 70 or 80 feet a time, almost like it is lagging. I tried again on the way home and it did the same thing, jumping by sometimes up to a hundred feet as I drive up the hill... I also stopped halfway up to get some gas and my altimeter zero'ed itself out on its own. Is this normal? I really expected a smoother decent on the display.. instead of these big jumps and gaps in altitude and I would hate to have my altimeter zero itself on the way to altitude. Any experience and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Nick
pilotdave 0 #2 March 11, 2008 Sounds like it's working great. You're not leaving the ground, and it's recognizing that. If you're nervous about using it, give it to another jumper to try or wear a second altimeter and try it on a solo. Dave
Armour666 0 #3 March 11, 2008 It's working just fine in the plane on the climb to altitude it will do the same thing. I have the altitrack and Optima the digital screen on the altitrack and the optima behave the same way as it hasn't sensed you went through any type of free fall or decent rate what would be under canopy. I thought my altitrack was broken as the needle didn't move till about 500 feet. on the digital screen the altitude was changing the same way you described.SO this one time at band camp.....
