RhondaLea 4 #101 January 16, 2006 Well, as everyone knows by now, NC and SC are unhealthy for my phone. That SunCom megamonster takes it over, and all anyone gets is a busy signal when they try to call me. If not for Lisa Marie, I'd be in Canada by now... Before I hit the SC border, however, I heard from Mike Neal (that was so cool, dude!) and Walt (also cool, but a big difference in mileage). I was right outside of Lumberton at about 4:00-4:30, and I still hadn't heard from Jumper03 and McDuck, but Lisa Marie managed to get in touch with Steven, who'd already tried to call me several times, and I was then able to call him. yamtx73 managed to leave a message for me right after I got to Lumberton, and I talked to him the next day. And here's what I have to say about that: he laughs better than anyone else I know. Here's the word: If you go to North Carolina, the skydivers there take you to the bowling alley. That's all I have to say. Except... ...for the younger women, DoTheDrew is adorable... ...McDuck is one lucky guy. Cora is one of the friendliest, coolest women I've ever met in my life. She just radiates joy. ...I'm not going to mention Steven's ball...but he did show up with magic rocks, and I figure they're enough to keep me from spilling the beans. (He's also very cute in his hat.) ...and, finally, McDuck's eyes are not real. He had to tell me who he was, even though I met him at his house. I was totally beat by the time I arrived (I was runnin' on three hours of sleep), but even though I was terrible company, they were still nice to me. North Carolina is redeemed. After 9 hours of sleep, I headed to Atlanta and Skydive the Farm. Lisa forgot the organ donor card, but I didn't remind her. Safer. For those who have never seen her, she's tall and pretty and she has an incredible voice. Her boys are adorable, as is the dzo's daughter. Which reminds me--if all dropzone owners were as friendly and nice as Hans, it would be a blessing. I've never met anyone quite like him. The folks who jump at Skydive the Farm are very lucky indeed, on all counts. Note to PJ: You're very lucky I didn't come to pack for you. I learned this weekend that I don't even remember how to set the brakes (well, okay, now I do). The drive home took forever, but all in all, it was worth it. I'm just sorry that this tale doesn't do justice to the fun I had. I'm writing this on the fly...I came back to a...situation, I guess you'd call it...and I have to get running to do some things. rl P.S. to Dave: Who knew that you don't have caller ID? It never occurred to me. My feelings were very hurt that you didn't call, but I guess I have to forgive you, even if you're still living in the 20th century. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

RhondaLea 4 #104 January 16, 2006 That was utterly awesome... The phone showed a 407 area code, so (as you know), it didn't register with me at first where you were calling from. I'm really glad I got to talk to you, Mike. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

McDuck 0 #108 January 17, 2006 QuoteIf you go to North Carolina, the skydivers there take you to the bowling alley. (sigh) The depths that I have descended to in my self-imposed exile from the west coast. Quote...McDuck is one lucky guy. Cora is one of the friendliest, coolest women I've ever met in my life. She just radiates joy. She is a sweetie...when haven't done something ridiculous to piss her off. Quote...and, finally, McDuck's eyes are not real. He had to tell me who he was, even though I met him at his house. What? I took the temporary curative elixer just before she got here. Either that, or I forgot to put the contact lenses in. Your choice. Besides, if I show those eyes around Steve, he starts sprinkling holy water with garlic on me. QuoteI was totally beat by the time I arrived (I was runnin' on three hours of sleep), but even though I was terrible company, they were still nice to me. North Carolina is redeemed. You weren't terrible company. We were thrilled to have you visit us, so you could do no wrong in our eyes. Hopefully we'll get to see you again some time soon. In the meantime, I'll have to work on my cuteness factor so I can measure up to LM's level for the Dublin pics. RhondaLea 4 #113 January 17, 2006 QuoteHate to tell you, but I could do a hell of a lot better than bowling, even with NO notice--especially for RL!!! Okay, in all seriousness, the running joke of the evening was that I was going to come back here and make a big deal out of skydivers taking me bowling. Apparently that has had the desired effect , however... ...the one thing about bowling (vs. all other possible activities) is that it gives people a chance to converse. And that we did do. The fact of the matter is that I was terrible company--I was totally beat, and I did not hold up my end well at all. But they were gentle with me, and for the hugs alone, it was worth the trip. And lets not forget the purpose and most important part of that leg of the trip: I met the two NC guys who redeem all the rest, and I came home with magic rocks. I would be interested to see, though, what jumper03 would come up with if I were to give him more lead time. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Ok NC guys. I'm starting a bidding war here. RL, visit me and you will get AT MINIMUM: Time with me (yes, I know the value of that is debatable). Time with critters if you want (raccoons, cat, armadillo, squirrels). I will take you to meet every Houston-area dz.commer you want to meet or see again (460 and Legg and Rick and Joy Harrison come to mind). Skydives and/or BASE jumps if you want. At least one fabulous dinner. Sushi, if you want. All the love vibes you can possibly handle. Beat THAT guys!!! Walt
