Can you jump a bike off of a car?

Without frying something? Just wondering. Left my ride sitting around too long and the battery croaked.

:(

Don't do it. You will melt the electrical system. Why don't you just roll the bike down a hill and pop the clutch with the bike in gear?

There *are* no hills in houston.

Really? It doesn't take much of one. I've jumped my Harley just rolling it down my slightly inclined driveway.

Maybe get 2 friends to push it or you can get real dangerous and tie a rope to the bumper of a car.

Shit, Russ. Get a rope and I'll drive your van! This could be a true video moment!

If your bike has a 12v battery, you can do it, but I'm assuming your bike has a 6v, or you wouldn't be asking. My current and last bike had 12v's, so I jumped them off my Chevy pickup all the time. Before that I had a couple of bikes with 6v batteries, so I kept a charger around that would switch from 12v to 6v.

My first bike was a '76 Honda XL100. Until I finally changed out the engine on it, I had to push start it probably 70% of the time. You loose some of the cool points earned from riding a motorcycle to school at 15 if you have to push it around the parking lot to get it started.

Yes, 12 volts is 12 volts, and the bike won't draw any more amperage than it needs. Any modern bike should be 12 volts, just count the battery caps and multiply times 2 to double check.

I thought this was going to be some cool "hop the BMX off the SUV without getting hurt" thread. :D

Voltage 12
Amp Hour 14
CCA* 190
Length 5.28"
Width 3.5"
Height 6.54"
Weight 7.94 lbs

I Googled this, and as I understand it, the motorcycle will only pull as much amperage as it needs from the car battery (the amps aren't pushed from the battery), so you should be fine. Just make sure the car isn't running or the alternator might push too many amps to the bike.

i have jumped my bike in the past, but i used a jumper pack that was rated for 800 CCA. called the dealer and they said it wouldnt hurt it. I didnt have any problems with mine. You shouldnt have any problems with yours either.

[deleted comment made. I need to learn how to read better...:S]

Sure! Just put a 2x10 board running from the ground to the hood. Start about 50 yards back to give yourself time to get up to speed. Aim for the board, and gun it! You should go flying like Evel Knieval through the air, with the greatest of ease.

Oh, the landing is another matter.
