BillyVance 35 #1 January 19, 2006 There I was, doing the crosswords in the quiet tranquility of my home when my neighbors from across the street frantically starts pounding on my door. I answer and they hurriedly tells me we have to evacuate. I ask why, they pull me outside and point to the sky behind my house. I see this humongous plume of black smoke. Apparently a train smacked into the back of another one just a mile from my house, and had a dangerous chemical on one or more of the cars. The whole town was ordered evacuated overnight, so my wife and I spent the night at a skydiver friend in the next town. News story here: http://beta.abc3340.com/news/stories/0106/295422.html So far, it looks like the chemical has not leaked. Edited to add: The weird thing is that witnesses nearby said it was a loud explosion, like a BOOOOM!!! I didn't hear it, but I did hear a strange low pitched sound, almost like a car horn honking a block away, which turned out to be the community's warning siren. Needless to say, I damned disappointed. I wanted to hear the BOOOOOM!! meridianjumper 0 #2 January 19, 2006 Yeah, that sucks Billy. I had to go up that way today to do some work and I had to go around the area because they had it all closed off. Blue Skies, Jeremy

BillyVance 35 #5 January 19, 2006 QuoteHow did you hear your neighbors pounding on your door? I'm fookin' deaf, but I'm not fucking deaf. There is a distinct difference. So, did that fuck your mind up or what? I hear just enough in a quiet environment to notice things like that, but only with a hearing aid on."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

BillyVance 35 #8 January 19, 2006 Oh by the way, my house is pretty sound-proof. When the trains collided, the result was a loud BOOOM. I never heard it. However, the smoke plume was visible from Birmingham, some 40 miles away."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

BillyVance 35 #10 January 19, 2006 Quote Or having a 707 crash into a hill a few streets down during a rainstorm. Or watching a F3 tornado tear through your neighborhood just blocks away (happened to me as a kid).
