I need Jury Duty Help

You like making sacrifices for a system which keeps lawyers rich, sets scumbags free, and prosecutes the innocent... and I don't.

You statement doesn't make sense...on one hand you say they set scumbags free...but you say innocent people are also prosecuted. The system is not perfect by any degree, but is far better than other systems in the world...but if you have any better idea's, why don't you share them with the class. Also...if you think a prosecuting attourney makes a lot of money you need to get a clue.

How does that not make sense? It makes perfect sense, because both statements are true. Scumbags are regularly set free, and the innocent are regularly convicted of crimes they were not guilty of.

Could be worse we could live in a place where women get persicuted for the crimes of men. For instance getting stoned to death for infidelity to you husband because another man raped you.

The "could be worse" argument is really, really, really stupid.

Every time someone tries to make something in our country look better by comparing it to something in a third world country, they lose all credibility.

It's like telling someone who lives in a box "it could be worse... you could be living in a hollowed out piece of elephant shit!".

then get in there and be a part of the decision-making process. if the scumbag is guilty, the vote guilty. if the defendant is innocent, vote innocent. you've already been given a pass because of your job, people understand that, but standing outside and bitching about a process that you could get into and influence makes you look very bad. lawyers and judges are going to get paid whether you show up or not, but you can effect the outcome of a case were you to show up when called. that's the most power over the process that any of us on the outside will ever have. your arguement about your hatred of the system holds no water with me.

I got a notice to appear in the mail for today. Last night I called in to the recording and they said I was on "stand-by" for 48 hours and to check on the recording tonight. I checked and they are asking me report at 8AM Tomorrow.....problem is that I can show up at 8AM, but I really need to be at an important appointment at 11AM......

I just didn't realize they could extend my service time (it does say it in small print)...

I got home from work tonight, and I have a notice to appear on the 14th of Feb.
I plan on just saying, "hey, he's guilty right? I mean, he wouldn't be here if he wasn't guilty, cuz the cops NEVER make mistakes....."

Yea, right
I'll serve

So I need some good illness or something to tell them I have to get them to let me off...any ideas.
P.S.

I have jury duty tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it. I don't have to be here at work, I can read my book, people watch, and participate in a legal process that keeps this joint running.

I actually took some work with me on my laptop. About 4 hours worth of editing. That's all the time that Jury Duty took that day and I charged my employer for my computer work...plus got to people watch et al for the time. B|

Yes, it is all good. :)

Here is the update:

I showed up at 8AM and was told:
1.) they were going in alpha order (I would be at the end)
2.) once we got through one judge, they needed jurors in another court room across the street, so if we were rejected in one court...we would have to still go to another that day.
3.) plan to be here today and tomorrow possibly.

I "faked" deathly ill and kept running to the bathroom...I nice court lady rescheduled me for next month and I was at work by 9AM;)

I do feel bad about not serving today and lying, however I will fulfill my duty next month.

Thanks for all the help!!!!:)

...and no Sean you can't have my tix:P

Good for you.

You like making sacrifices for a system which keeps lawyers rich, sets scumbags free, and prosecutes the innocent... and I don't.

Are you going to try to tell me that no scumbags are ever set free? Are you also going to try to tell me that the innocent are never found guilty? Are you going to tell me that lawyers are good people, and also underpaid? Are you going to tell me that there are no corrupt judges?

And who do you think decides who is guilty or not? Those same housewives and welfare recipients that you talk about in your other post... as another post said... if you don't participate in the system, you don't have a leg to stand on, bitching about it.
