Actually that's japanese wrestler Hyabusa - pretty much a legend in the business from both the fans and workers perspective. That was when he mistimed a move and broke his neck, paralyzing him from the neck down and ending his career.

I figured you didn't. While most of the guys bounce around like they're indestructable I think the people on this forum understand more than most the reality. Wrestling hurts - just because we pretend its fake doesnt make it not hurt. Stone Cold Steve Austin - undoubtably the most popular wrestler in it's history - can barely walk because of the constant punishment. When the music hits and he's in front of people he swaggers and you'd never know it.

Thats why (for anyone thats seen him in recent years) he drives that ATV to the ring now.

That was sooo sick... Really, that's one of the worst-looking wrestling move fuck-ups I've seen in a long time. You definitely don't see them that bad on WWE.

Now, sometimes accidents happen. I remember one of the Steiner brothers, I think it was Scott, who was wrestling Buff Bagwell in the old WCW. Scott was ready to do a bulldog on Buff off the corner turnbuckle, but Buff's NWO teammate interfered and pushed Scott off, with Buff along. Buff's head snapped back on Scott's back when they hit the canvas and he was paralyzed. Luckily it was only a fractured vertebrae, and Buff recovered, but that took over a year. He didn't wrestle again, I don't think.

Wrestlers have a nasty habit of dying young because of the abuse they put their bodies through. Not just in the ring, but to get their bodies ready for more abuse in a few days.

The human body - and/or psyche - are just not equipped to deal with it.

Very true, but with few exceptions. Look at Ric Flair. Still going after 30 years in the business, give or take. I thought he'd have retired years ago. Hulk Hogan has not wrestled much lately, but he's in better shape than some of the dudes I see in WWE now.

But yeah, most of them end up crippled or have very short careers.
