"...and they continually make reference to the B.A.S.E. jumpers 'code of ethics', to 'not tell where a body is in the case of a death as a result of a B.A.S.E. jump'. "

This doesn't even rise to the level of being a myth. There is no such ridiculously inhuman ethic followed by BASE jumpers. Period.

Not a slam against you, Chuck. You are only reporting what you see and hear. The news people are absolutely dead wrong on this.

Enough said.

I was hoping you'd see my post, Walt. I really appreciate your setting the record straight. How would the news get such a thing to say, anyhow?

Chuck

From what I can tell, reporters are not generally put in a position where they have the time and resources needed to get to the truth in a story. They are given little in the way of resources but always have tight deadlines hanging over their heads. I believe that because of that environment, if they want to stay in the business, then they must take shortcuts.

One of those shortcuts is relying on sources with unknown credibility.

Beyond that, I think they are always looking for a sensational twist on just about any story.

The reality is that since its beginnings the BASE community has taken care of its own, sometimes at great sacrifice.

Unfortunately, that's just not as sensational as saying that BASE jumpers eat their dead.

I have witnessed some real heroics firsthand. So have others in the BASE community. I know of nobody, though, that has witnessed anything like what is being portrayed in the media.

I have no malice toward reporters but because of their tendency to play fast and loose with the truth, I am not willing to talk with them either.

My sincerest apologies to anyone who believes harm is being done by continuing this thread. What I am saying, though, needed to be said.

Walt
