You won't know when, you won't know where, you won't know who... but you will know why. That said, barring the first pie at 100 jumps I think people who do not actively participate in the pieing of others should be exempt from being pied themselves. Note that buying the supplies, making the pies, being the pie plate (gotcha Sunny!), throwing the pies, videoing the pieing, and laughing at the pie-ee are all considered to be active participation.
