B| Don't know your style preference but if you go rustic.....I saw a place done with rope, instead of regular wood moulding.....pretty cool, They used all different sizes and types of rope in the different applications. Nice....but I'm not big on rustic. Let your son decide and design. That way, you can blame it on him.

Oh jeez NO I won't let my son decorate! He's too big into bands like Green Day, etc. and decorated his room in the "early-teenage garbage-pit" motif. Nah - I'll certainly get his input and let him have his share of input.

He does like the big-screen TV and home theatre ideas, though!!

One of the ideas I had was going with an "industrial" infuence I'll call it. I work one some fairly large machinery and have some really large machine parts, (sheaves, etc.) and full use of a bunch of welding equipment. - I can build all sorts of stuff, I just need to be sure it doesn't make the ladies go "yuck".

So let me ask this - What are the things ladies DON'T want to see in a guys home?

(Maybe I should post that question in the Womans' forum?)

no neon, please! I think industrial is cool, with sparse furniture (big couches are cool), so there is lotsa space. Plants are a requirement are good, but will he water them,

also it depends on what kind of girls he likes .. they may like his Greenday type furnishings ... what does he say?;)

So much info available on home decor these days!
I watch HGTV and get ideas, (always ripping pics out of magazines)....this website is loaded with ideas:
http://www.hgtv.com/

I wouldn't worry so much about the ladies as your home is your castle and portrays who you are. My uncle is machinist and has built some incredible works of art....re: tables covered in glass with base designed from machinery wheels and the surface under glass covered in gromets and nuts etc.

Wall scones for lighting, coffee tables, plant stands, end tables, benches, mirrors, headboards, dining room tables.....even candle holders...

Right now I am searching for a base for my dining room table to cover with glass (perfect for smaller area to be able to see thru compared to solid top)

Anyway- being creative is satisfying...
My office ceiling has my old 26' reserve hanging from it!
Attached some pics I found online of tables....

I've been helping my boyfriend redecorate for the past few months. In fact, just last night we put the final coat of paint on his new Pub Room and we're really happy with how it looks. He had the typical bachelor pad when we met; a nice house but it was totally furnished in mismatched hand-me-downs from his mom and sister.

It can get overwhelming to try to do the whole house at the same time, so I suggest starting with one room. We started with his bathroom, moved into the bedroom and then out into the living areas. For color choices, I went with the colors that he wears the most, in his case being rich colors in the brown, black, beige, rust, sage and gold tones and carried it all through the house to show uniformity and flow. So, start with the colors that are most pleasing to you and if you're not sure, look in your closet for a clue!

To make it appealing to the ladies, furnish it like we would by adding nick-nacks, wall hangings and accessories to make the house a home and not just a place to sleep. For my bf's place, he was really cost conscience so I made sure I found great deals on stuff before I brought it home. Check out Ross, Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Michael's and Kirkland's for accessories, prints and paintings and Bed bath and beyond, Linen's & things, Target, Wal-Mart and JC Penney for bathrooms, rugs and curtains.

I used a 20% off Bed bath and beyond coupon at Linen's & things so don't throw out coupons that come in the mail! And, make sure you read the Sunday flyers to see what is on sale. Also, if you want to impress women, keep the clutter down and keep the place clean. I wish I could come help you decorate, it's so much fun!

Great advice - I'd love to have you up to help decorate!

My first instinct was to hit the garage sales - (since the STBE is getting the bulk of the furniture-)

I've been told that's OK, as long as the stuff matches and is in great shape. (Not hard to find in this area, it's infested with yuppies-) Great source of dishes, pots, pans, etc.

Wire spools, cement blocks and scrap boards are right out, though.

Garage sales are fine and you can even buy slip covers for sofas if you find a good, clean one but don't really like the pattern on it.

Checking out HGTV - I kinda like that "transistional" style. Seems to blend a wide variety of furniture styles nicely without making it look totally random. Should be able to fit my industrial-design furnishings into that quite nicely.

That "shabby chic" looks too much like a bunch of garage sale crop strewn together. Ugh.
