matthewcline 0 #1 January 27, 2006 So I was the Assistant DZSO for a Army Static Line jump today. The nav delayed the Green light a bit and put the whole pass in the trees! The radio exchange went some thing like this; "Torch this is Bison inbound 1 minute." "Bison this is Torch winds calm clear to drop." "Roger." "Bison this is Torch why did you abort the paaaaaaaaaaaaa ah hell, shit, damn, correction I count 8 good canopies. The 1st jumper came out after you passed the DZ was there a refusal?" "Torch this is Bison umm a, hmm, a minor mistake on our part with the light." "Bison this is Torch, minor? I got the whole pass in the tress! Before you make the next pass fix your CARP our I am in for along day!, SIR." "Torch this is Bison, Sorry we figured it would be close, we will have it fixed" To the Class who I was teaching "Now you see why CARP is the best DZ to run? It is all his fault (pointing to the C-130), he did the math I just read the winds", but oh yes it was heavy in the sarcasim. "Torch this is Bison inbound 1 minute" "Bison this is Torch winds 7 knots at 220 clear to drop, Don't ,make me look bad now!" "Torch this is Bison roger" The rest of the drop went fine after that. Then I had to put my climbing skills to use, all the jumpers are fine but we did tear up a few of our tax dallors. But hey, it is all funny now with a beer in hand!An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
