matthewcline 0 #4 January 28, 2006 AOL? Yikes! It kept attaching itself to so much stuff in my computer that after I got a little smarter in computer tech (I mean "a little" literally), I just let my much smarter, in all things, wife (just ask her) hook us up with DSL and and Bell South. At work it is a DOD Fiber optic set up. The soft wear actually hunts down AOL and won't let people use it! But then again they could tell me any thing and I wouldn't know (or care) as long as my stuff works when I want it.An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! cocheese 0 #8 January 29, 2006 What is the internet ? I heard about that once. Do I need a modem or something to get there. BTW, What's a modem ?
eeneR 3 #9 January 29, 2006 QuoteWhat's a modem ? A modem is a device used to modulate and demodulate a carrier signal across a standard POTS. It changes the waves to 0's and 1's... oh god geek alert... Runs and hides from myself.... Slams into a Cisco router, and proceeds to run the otherway.. Oh and for those who dont know...POTS = Plain Old Telephone System...good ole phone lines...She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

livendive 8 #15 January 29, 2006 QuoteAOL is what enables people who have no business being on the internet to get there. LOL - I finally cancelled my AOL about a month ago, after like 8 or 9 years with them. You know, we all don't use the AOL content...it's just an incredibly easy to access ISP from anywhere (especially true years ago, local ISPs incurred long-distance charges when travelling). Log in, minimize AOL, open brower/email program of choice, get on with business. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!"
