TrophyHusband 0 #1 February 1, 2006 does anyone have it? is it worth the money? we test drove a hummer last night and the salesman didn't even mention it until i asked. then the only thing he said was that it takes some getting used to. is it a good system that just isn't user frendly or is it still a piece of shit once you know how to use it? TrophyHusband 0 #3 February 1, 2006 we're looking at the h3. its the only suv meg has shown any interest in. if not we will have to get a minivan. words cannot express how much i do not want a minivan. i would like to keep my testicles, thank you. AggieDave 6 #4 February 1, 2006 Quotei would like to keep my testicles, thank you. The H3 doesn't exactly do that. I know I would MUCH rather have a mini-van then any of the H-series, besides the original. Beyond that, go look at a quad-cab pickup and put a topper on the bed. BAM instant family vehicle that has the weight and stucture to actually be worth anything. Hell, I got T-boned a few months ago in my truck by someone going close to 50 MPH and that person stated that the brakes were not applied until the last 10ft before impact. The car that hit me was basically a plastic explosion. Obviously my truck was really messed up, but it is strong enough that it drove home with no problem. SOLID. Sidenote, that's why I'm threating my wife with buying a 1984 Chevy 3/4 ton suburban to drive our kids around in (when we have kids). Since I figure that's the biggest and heaviest chunk of steel that she could still be able to drive.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #6 February 1, 2006 Quote He already has a quad cab pick up...one that's really nice and not that old! Ah. Well, I'd still stay away from the H-series. For some reason I really like those Dodge Magnums...that's a cool SUV-ish vehicle.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Miami 0 #7 February 1, 2006 Haha...minivan's are not that bad, you just have to try one, I was very surprised with ours. Other than the ego thing what advantages would an H3 have over say...a Honda Odyssey? I can name a plethora of advantages to getting the minivan...Miami
TrophyHusband 0 #8 February 1, 2006 i love my truck and it isn't going anywhere. this is for my wife. i wouldn't get one for me. i don't think that the engine is big enough. i will however have to drive it from time to time. TrophyHusband 0 #9 February 1, 2006 the odyssey would be the alternative to an suv. the advantage is that we can pack up the whole family plus the dog plus our camping gear and go up into the woods. why can't we do that with the truck you ask? when you put everyone in the cab, there's no room for luggage, cooler, and gear. here in the northwest, the chances pf running into rain can be pretty good. there is another solution which i have suggested but has been vetoed. we could just buy a locking waterproof hard cover for the bed of the truck and the problem would be solved just like aggiedave suggested. that way we could keep the car and save some money. i feel this is the best option, but i think meg wants a new vehicle. she could never bring herself to get a new car because she wants a new car. she has to justify it. i hate to do it, but i think i'm going to suggest that she test drive an odyssey before making a decision. she will be the one driving it every day so its ultimately her decision. sundevil777 102 #10 February 1, 2006 Obviously you are considering Hondas. Good choice. I have been a design engineer for them for 10 years in Ohio. Consider the Honda Pilot (8 passenger SUV), or the Honda Ridgeline pickup (lots of cool storage features inside and in the bed trunk), or the Acura MDX (7 pass SUV) if you want upscale luxury type SUV. All of these are made in North America with more domestic content than the big 3 typically offer. Also, the Honda CRV and Acura MDX will be a full model change/replaced this year, so good deals will be had on the old version, or maybe wait for the new one. The all new Acura RDX will be out before too long. All of these and the Odyssey are good for kids because you can recline the back seats, which is crucial for them to sleep comfortably. It only takes a little from the std position, but it makes a huge difference. Feel free to PM me for more insider info on Honda vehicles. edit: The Honda/Acura Navigation system is super easy to use, very intuitive. It has been my experience that other mfg systems are not so easy to use.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. TrophyHusband 0 #11 February 1, 2006 she doesn't like the crv or the pilot, but you are the second person to recommend the acura mdx. i test drove an odyssey and agree that the nav system was super easy. i'm don't know what the rdx is, but i don't think she's looked at acuras so i'll point them out to her. The MDX is awesome, but I am a bit biased, being so involved in the development of the instrument panel and console. As I said, the new model will be out in the fall, so you can choose to wait or get a good deal as the fall approaches. It has outstanding crashworthiness compared to its competitors. Many models have excellent accessories to make them quite dog friendly, depending on your needs. Miami 0 #14 February 1, 2006 Ok, at least your thinking clearly. If you compare pretty much any full sized SUV (and I say full sized as an SUV that has close to the storage space and passenger room that an Odyssey has) to an Odyssey you are looking at way more money, much less comfort, much lower fuel mileage, less ease to drive...etc. While the Odyssey is a minivan, it is a much better deal while at the same time being more bang for your buck. Besides...the people who give you shit for driving in a minivan become very quiet when you whip out the XBox or PS2 for a little gameplay midroute, or when you inflate a twin coleman mattress in the back for some super comfy backseat nooky.Miami
sundevil777 102 #15 February 1, 2006 The Odyssey is the sportiest van. All of the Hondas/Acuras, including the SUVs, with the rear seat entertainment system can accomodate a game system. The screen is small enough, however, that it is not so satisfying for the kids.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. On another note...my 2 yo is highly satisfied, even on 12 hour road trips, with the screen in the Odyssey and Dora the Explorer in the dvd player! A friend just got a quad cab truck with rear entertainment installed. With three in the back you all have to put your heads together to be able to see the screen...not the most comfy for watching a movie during a road trip! In the Odyssey 6 can watch a movie much more comfy like, and if the nav is installed (and you're not actively driving!) 8 can watch in comfort.
