Guest 1010 #54 January 24, 2006 > never felt that way until about 20 non-skydivers told me this.....i still really don't.....but wanted to get the opinions of skydivers then I say screw'em - keep jumping if YOU want to - stop jumping if YOU want to - its your life, live it on YOUR terms. Also, I was beginning to dislike jumping until I found a rig small enough that I didn't feel like it was gonna come off ... and I like Walt's advice above too ... there ARE reasons for line twists, you "just" have to find them. (what's all this noise up-thread ... sheesh, the kids nowadays ) You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.

pBASEtobe 0 #60 January 24, 2006 Quoteunfortunately i am still using student gear that doesnt fit me all to well.....and I don't pack.....not until I get a smaller canopy Huh!?! 50 jumps, still using student gear, waiting to learn to pack when you have a smaller canopy? What the hell happened to skydiving in the last 5 years I've been out?!?!
xenaswampjumper 0 #61 January 24, 2006 well as far as student gear.........can't afford to shell out that much in one shot..........and as far as packing.....I just downsized to a 190.......it would take me an hour to pack a large canopy....... till later have fun & love each other seeya mb65johnny gates.... bob.dino 1 #62 January 24, 2006 Quote...and as far as packing.....I just downsized to a 190.......it would take me an hour to pack a large canopy....... With the judicious use of a packing hook to hang the canopy and a mat to squeeze the air out, you should have no problems a canopy of any size. How do you think tandem mains get packed? We don't have to hire secret hit-squads of 8ft tall NBA rejects just because the canopies are bigger .

Scoop 0 #67 January 24, 2006 On a serious note. I was advised that it can also be how your harness is adjusted. For example if one legstrap is tight and the other is quite loose. Im not sure this would induce line twists, maybe off heading openings. Speak to someone with more experience, im only regurgitating what Ive been told. PLFXpert 0 #70 January 24, 2006 I don't believe in jinx, but I still knock on wood Don't know what to tell you. I used to joke about how often I got line twists, but it never mattered b/c it was always on my 170 sq ft (I'm 120 lbs) and I could float fat & happy with twists almost all the way up--the canopy would still be big and square. I got my 135 after jump 50 and have never had a malfunction, thus far.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
skymama 37 #71 January 24, 2006 Like Walt said, rule things out. Since it is student gear, ask others who are jumping the same gear if they are having opening issues too. If they are, talk to management about getting the canopy tested with the manufacturer. To see if it is a packing issue, have someone else whom you trust pack the canopy . Have Kramer do it, he's packed a few canopies in his time. If those two things check out, it still could be body position. What are you looking at when you throw out your pilot chute? Are you looking back at your throw or are you looking straight ahead with your shoulders level? Upon opening, try making a point of putting your feet together, that helps keep you level in your harness. Should you hang it up? Only you can decide that. Some people keep at it, others decide it's not worth it. Maybe just take a break for a bit and see how much you miss jumping. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
