Regan1990 0 #1 February 3, 2006 I swap and change how I feel about these little pieces of skydiving jewelry..... Never owned one, but i think its about time we disscussed if they are essential wearing and part of our culture are just a bit silly --------------------------------------
SkydiveStMarys 0 #2 February 3, 2006 Great conversation pieces. My son was wearing one and the stewdess on an ariplane we were on said, "ooooh I know what that is." She was a jumper herself. That was a great plane ride...all kinds of extra goodies! BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude.

VampireGirl 0 #4 February 3, 2006 I voted "every skydiver should wear one" but I really feel that it's personal choice. I wear mine 'cos it reminds me of my gear that I have waiting at home to be jumped. It reminds me of falling through the sky and makes me smile when I am feeling a bit down. It's also a great way of spotting a skydiver who you don't know and striking up a conversation. I understand that there are some people who just don't like them and people who don't wear them but the people who don't like them shouldn't knock people who do. xx REGAN, please accept my apology if it looked like I was having a go... errr, also, if the vote goes WITH the closing pin necklace, would you wear one? www.sneale-create.com
RhondaLea 4 #5 February 3, 2006 None of the above. I have one that's a memorial pin for a dead friend. I cherish it. I have another that hangs on a carbon fire choker made by a friend of mine. He made only two--one for him and one for me. He ended up giving his to Omar, and borrowing mine whenever he wanted to wear a pin. I cherish that too. But the one I really miss was cast for me in India out of gold. It's lying somewhere at the bottom of the New River after a hard opening broke the chain and sent it flying off my neck. If I wear a closing pin, people ask me about it. The temptation has always been to invent a religion, but so far, I've just given a straight explanation. All in all, they're a pretty piece of jewelry to me--with meaning that comes from their origin, not just from being a closing pin. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Regan1990 0 #7 February 3, 2006 Well Sarah I would wear one if it was given to me by someone special and it had meaning so if anyone is passing thru Empuria and wants to get me a Valentine´s gift.... --------------------------------------
GTAVercetti 0 #8 February 3, 2006 I wear a necklace. But it has a symbol of my birth year, not a closing pin. Not because I don't want a closing pin, but because I had the birth year one for a long time and I am going with just one necklace. I do plan on getting a closing pin tattooed on my back someday. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Regan1990 0 #11 February 3, 2006 PACKBOYS!!!! PACKBOYS!!! Dont get me started!! Wearing one off those in the bar when you cant even pack yet!!! (Not you Nick,) but we have all seen it... Come on... Anyway, back to the hook pin, we will deal with packboys later... Seems to be going in the direction that they are an acceptable item, especially touched by RL´s reasons--------------------------------------

Too often it looks like an advertisement..."HEY LOOK AT ME!" I have one that was cut off the rig I did my Gold Wing jump off of...the lanyard is a piece of reserve suspension line from a reserve that I built myself. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
MrBounce 0 #13 February 3, 2006 If I wear a closing pin, people ask me about it. The temptation has always been to invent a religion, but so far, I've just given a straight explanation.*** But skydiving IS a religion: Its done on weekends and holidays. It motivates when times are bad. Its only done by a select club of initiates who have their own rules. It occasionally requires the sacrifice of a piece of equipment or dumb animal (read drunk skydiver) to the skygods. See... religion. And it has none going to hell stuff either ... and more happy & friendly people Sorry, I'm getting a little off topic here. Ummm, jewelry, well I wouldn't wear one. I used to wear my packboy until I went to bed drunk once and stabbed myself in the neck. So that stays in the bag now I'd probably wear one for the same reasons as rl, if it was special. Gavin Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. If you don't take it out and use it, its going to rust.

Girlfalldown 0 #17 February 3, 2006 I wear mine. I never take it off. I love it! It was made by a friend of mine at my dropzone. She let me pick out the colors and there are a couple other girls that I adore that wear almost the same one. I have the pin on the front and the symbol for Aum (or Om) on the back. It's a good way to find other skydivers when you're out and about. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #18 February 3, 2006 Quote I know a cutie who wears one pretty damn well. her ?? Mr. Nico, I don't think that he's referring to "her" because as you must be aware, that neck is mine. Regarding closing pin necklaces, I think that they are special and bring good luck, when given as a present. I have given them to several of my skydiving friends. I had one made for Melstarr in her colors. I also gave my friend Ladonna one for her birthday, and I gave one to Nicky at his leaving LA for Shanghai party. I hope that they each have good luck and endless good vibes from my closing pin necklaces.
PsychoBob 0 #19 February 3, 2006 I started wearing one after my first reserve ride as a reminder of just how fast things can go to shit. Since then, I've only made one jump where I wasn't wearing it and on that one I had a line dump and a hard opening that broke my steering lines and tore up my chest and shoulder. Call me superstitious but I don't jump without it anymore."I'm not a gynecologist but I will take a look at it" RB #1295, Smokey Sister #1, HellFish #658, Dirty Sanchez #194, Muff Brothers #3834, POPS #9614, Orfun Foster-Parent?" flygirl1 0 #21 February 3, 2006 I don't really know how to answer your poll. I don't think all skydivers should where one if they don't want to. I have one that I made to match my jump suit. I didn't use to where it all that often but, I have been wearing it a lot more lately since I can't jump right now. It kind of helps me feel connected to the sport and all my friends.Fly like a girl
