freebirdtif 0 #1 February 13, 2008 Ok Im not with it . Can someone show me a pic of a RSL shackle? I thought the reserve had 3 rings through the reserve pin. Is this only with an RSL set up?-
Chris-Ottawa 0 #2 February 13, 2008 Hey, Not sure what you're looking for but I was just switching parachutes for this weekend and took a break and saw your post. Took pictures while the gear was out. Mine has an RSL and the 3 rings I think you're referring to. If you don't have an RSL, I believe you would only have 1."When once you have tasted flight..." freebirdtif 0 #3 February 13, 2008 Thank you for the picture I have two rigs in the back where my pin is.... so the RSL hooked up will make 3. I was suspose to get the RSL when I bought this gear....guess he forgot to include it. Ahyway Sunpath was nice enough to overnight me my RSL for my container.............Thanks again-
riggerrob 643 #4 February 13, 2008 One, two or three small rings? It depends which model of container and which year. Older Javelins tend to have two small RSL guide rings sewn to the last reserve flap, near the last grommet and near where the ripcorde pin lays when the rig is all packed. Other rigs (i.e. older Talons) only have one RSL guide ring sewn to the last flap. Older Talons depend on the end of the ripcord housing to function as the second guide ring. Since 1994, Talons have had zero guide rings, but when they introduced the Voodoo, R.I. sewed two guide rings under the left riser cover. Finally, the lastest Vector/Micron have zero guide rings. Bill Booth says they were never really needed, but he worried that some idiot might miss-route a Skyhook so badly that they might try to drag the entire freebag through a guide ring! In conclusion, RSL guide rings were important back when we used brass cones to close containers, but the importance of metal guide rings has fallen in importance since the 1970s.
