SEREJumper 1 #1 February 12, 2008 Ordered SR-1 (reserve) slinks for a rig with a PD 281 reserve, but the packaging says for use with only PDR 113 - 253. Seems to me if they are good enough for a Tandem main... PD hasn't gotten back to me yet, anybody out there have them on a 281? Thanks! We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
riggerrob 643 #2 February 12, 2008 I vaguely remember that Slinks were invented before PDR 281 reserves. The other issue is that 281 reserves are so large that you probably will not notice that metal connector links are heavier than soft links.
slotperfect 7 #3 February 12, 2008 PD has since disallowed the use of SLinks on tandem main canopies due to melting of risers from slider grommets that get hot due to friction. This friction was not an issue when SLinks were first approved for tandem mains - mains built at the time were the EZ series with 6-grommet sliders. When they went back to a 4-grommet slider on the Sigma canopies, they disallowed the use of SLinks. They advise against using SLinks on any large canopies that use 900lb lower lines and #25 slider grommets. All of the above is straight from the horse's mouth. The PD-281R is listed on the order form, as are SLinks as an option. http://www.performancedesigns.com/orderforms/res-f.pdf To be sure I would call PD and ask them about compatibility.Arrive Safely John
SEREJumper 1 #4 February 13, 2008 Just got this back from PD: The SR-1 slinks are approved for use on a PR-281 reserve. I believe the slink packaging was not updated when we added the PR-281 to the product line. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll add this to the list of updates needed! So..they are good to go. riggerrob 643 #5 February 13, 2008 Why did PD change back from 6-grommet to 4-grommet sliders on their tandems? I only got a vague answer about "intolerant of sloppy packing leading to more line tangles." In comparison, SET-400s open great with 6-grommet sliders and have lighter toggle pressure. Thanks to all who replied. The paperwork with the order of Reserve Slinks I received a few weeks ago list PD reserves 99-281. Also the reference to the "Tandem main with 6 grommet slider only" has been removed from the current paperwork include with each set.
