Laser 7

Recommended Posts

What size was the Laser 7 (244?) and was there a life limit on the reserve when the company was still in business? There's a low time jumper I'm talking to who is looking at a rig with a Laser 7 in it. Of course he was told to buy a reserve that isn't 21 years old, but these other questions I was unable to answer. We couldn't find the information either.

I jumped Laser 7s as a student. Landed me softly every time, of course, I only weighed 145 naked at the time and the instructor only let me jump when winds were almost non-existent.

I wouldn't jump any of them now if they're that old.

Funny!
I just inspected a pair of Laser 7-250 reserves last week.
I have never had any problems with Laser canopies.
Sure, they are older technology, but condition is more important than shelf age.
The other factor is not loading them much beyond one pound per square foot. Remember that no-one was loading mains over 1:1 back then, ergo designers did not know how to design for soft landings at heavier loadings.
