Castaic, CA Area feedback please.

Recommended Posts

I know where Castaic is on the map but can anyone provide me with some info on the character or "flavor" or the area. How far to (and name of) the nearest DZ? How far to a ski area? What is the cost of living like? Other recreational oppurtunities. Feel free to PM me if you like.

Thank you in advance.

Ed

it's not bad there, nice big lake, watersking, fishing Taft, Cal-City, Elsinro and Prrris are anywhere form an hour to less then two hours. Wrightwood again maybe two hours, the beach is not to far either.

looking to move there???

Beautiful area if you enjoy the outdoors... good mountain biking, jet skiing, boating. Nearest activity night/bar would probably be Valencia.

Nearest DZ is taft.

Cost in Castaic is going up, but there really isn't alot of work in the area - unless you already have something lined up. Lot's of options for living, the San Fernando Valley (Castaic/Valencia basin area). Or you can commute from Santa Paula/Eastern Ventura over the 126.

Castaic is right on the northern edge of Metro LA area. It's the last stop before heading up the Grapevine.

There is a lot of new building in Castaic and south of there. It's also a good central location to lots of things.

First, you have the lakes. Castaic, of course, as well as Pyramid Lake, which is about a half hour north on the 5. You've also got some good rock climbing, hiking, etc., at Mt. Pinos, abotu 45 minutes north.

You are about 10 minutes from Magic Mountain, but that'll get old soon.

Santa Clarita is a nice area, about 15 minutes south. Lots of decent places to hang out. Also, you've got Metrorail to connect you to downtown LA, Hollywood, etc. So if you dont' want to face that traffic you don't have to.

You are also about 45 minutes from Ventura. Just take the 126 (think it's the 126) west from the 5 just north of Magic Mountain. It used to be "Blood Highway" because it was so dangerous, but I think they've improved the road substantially in the last ten years.

The nearest dropzone is probably Taft, which would probably take a little over an hour to get to. Elsinore or Perris are a good two hours away.

Aside from that, you've got all of LA right beneath you. Plenty of good life (Gawd, I miss it)

I live in Castaic. I jump at Taft (1 hour away) and Perris (1 and 1/2 to 2 hours depending on traffic). I love the area. SInce my work takes me to the San Fernando Valley, downtown LA, Malibu, etc., I am never more than an hour and a half away. The beach is anywhere from 45 minutes (Ventura) to and hour and a half (Malibu / Point Dume / Zuma).

Castaic Lake is here and Pyramid is 20 minutes away if you are into boating, fishing, jet-skiing, etc. You can go skiing or snowboarding at Mountain High which is one hour away, and there are tons of places to ride horses, shoot, dirtbike, etc.

Housing prices have gone up significantly since I built my house 4 years ago, but the surrounding area has grown so much as well. I can't believe the number of stores, restaurants, cafes, etc. that have come into the Santa Clarita / Valencia area in the past few years. The only drawback is that there is not much nightlife here, but there is plenty within a short drive.

PM me is you have any questions. I'd be happy to help you out!

Oh, one thing I forgot...if you do move here, and decide to jump at Taft, PM me for the back way. It cuts about 15 minutes off of the drive and you can avoid the speed trap road that everyone gets nailed on on the way there:)
