NWFlyer 2 #8 February 4, 2006 I could tell you a story of four bored TSA screeners, their supervisor, a (relucantly) patient skydiver and a skydiving rig. NWFlyer 2 #11 February 4, 2006 It was a dark and stormy (okay, just a little rainy) night in Boston. A beautiful young princess (okay, she wasn't that young, and she was actually a skydiver, not a princess) carried her magic carpet (okay, it was her skydiving rig) through the security at Logan Airport. Oh, screw that... Anyway. I send my rig through the xray machine. Gathering up all my stuff at the other end and of course, they grab it and say "can we run it through again?" Sure. He then proceeds to: -swab it -poke at the Vigil -peek under the reserve flap (Please don't touch anything in there, okay, thanks) -run it through again outside of the suitcase (please please please don't accidentally pull anything, okay, thanks) -look at the Vigil paperwork -look at the TSA letter -call his supervisor over -run it through again -leave it at the end of the belt (holding up everyone else in line) because the supervisor said "don't touch it" (why, I'm not sure). -finally fetch it off the belt -supevisor then pokes at the Vigil a little bit ("Are you able to open this up and disconnect this if we need you to?" Um, no, no I can't, thanks.) -supervisor says he's not sure I can carry it on -supervisor finally runs the bag through himself and looks at the x-ray and pronounces it "fine" but "if that (Vigil) had been any bigger I would have had to ask you to take it apart." The supervisor didn't even want to look at the paperwork; fortunately, the conversation didn't have to end with "well, then, get me *your* boss." I tried to stay polite and friendly the whole time, but the supervisor did seem like one of those guys on a bit of an "I'm in charge here ma'am power trip." After he walked away and I was getting the rig all packed up the rest of the crew (the guy manning the x-ray machine, the guy who kept running my bag through, and two others) were peppering me with questions "So, are you a skydiver? How many jumps do you have? Wow, that's a lot (no, not reallyThe staff thought it was really fucking cool. They'd never seen one before and said it livened up an otherwise quiet Friday night. And they all lived happily ever after. Or something like that.
yamtx73 0 #12 February 4, 2006 Well, at least they got an education of sorts on what to expect when they run into the next skydiver's rig that goes thru the x-ray machine...The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...
NWFlyer 2 #13 February 4, 2006 QuoteWell, at least they got an education of sorts on what to expect when they run into the next skydiver's rig that goes thru the x-ray machine... That's what I figured. Logan is the first airport where anyone's even blinked an eye (I've flown out of Seattle, Charlotte, Phoenix, SFO, and Oakland with it). Last week they opened my bag and swabbed it down, but all it took was one screener asking her colleague "Hey, are parachutes okay?" to get me through. We cant leave campus. and we have to be back in our dorms at 10. also our Internet shuts off at 12. So at least you all can go drive somewhere or go get food after work. But I feel your pain. I think however that dz.com is a cool place to talk and relax. have fun everybody. -jeff-
