warpedskydiver 0 #1 February 16, 2006 I have a 2 story house and here is what I would like to know: when the upstairs bath tub is full then drained my downstairs sink(bathrooms are one over the other with a common DIP 6" stack) starts gurgling hard like there isn't enough vent on the stack...WTF? THE HOUSE IS 36 YRS OLD AND NEVER HAD THIS BEFORE!
Dumpster 0 #2 February 16, 2006 Sounds like the vent stack may be plugged, which could happen any number of ways. Easy Does It
warpedskydiver 0 #3 February 16, 2006 is there an easy way to get the crap out of it?(no pun intended)

Gene03 0 #8 February 16, 2006 Yup, partial blockage in the vent stack. Could just be ice with this weather. Get yourself a can of Carbide and a Bic lighter... Uhm, nevermind. Didn't work very well when Rainbo tried it, if I remember right.“The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him. flyinghonu 0 #9 February 16, 2006 Hijack, Hijack! Sorry, but I was going to post a plumbing question as well (sorry, just don't want to register with the plumbers forums ). I live in a two story townhome. Whenever we turn the water on after it being off for awhile, it smells like TOTAL ass (I am dead serious). My husband believes this is normal but I have never been in a house with the same problem (at least that I've realized). Is this normal? If so, is there anything to throw down the drain to eliminate or lessen the ass smell? The really sucky part about this problem is it makes for a HUGE gagging session while I'm brushing my teeth FYI: we bought the home new and it is only about 2 yrs old "Excuse me while I kiss the sky..." - Jimi Hendrix
monkycndo 0 #10 February 16, 2006 If it is DIP, the light will not get down the pipe too far due to it being black in color. A mirror reflecting sunlight will light up much further down the pipe.50 donations so far. Give it a try. Dumpster 0 #13 February 16, 2006 Yucky city water - May have some nasties in it that like to get stinky when it sets idle for a while - May I suggest a full-flow water filter with an activated charcoal filter element. No more nasty-smelling water. I use the same thing in my home, we have a nasty sulfer smell/tase from our well water and the filter does wonders. We change the element about once every two months. Snowwhite 0 #14 February 16, 2006 hey, much easier solution. 1/2 cup bleach down the drain every other week. It's crude that gets waylayed at the P trap, sits and rots, and has mold growing in it. The sink where you brush your teeth is the most likely place for it to happen. Try the bleach. Simple, cheap, works.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
