wmw999 2,589 #27 February 16, 2006 Yeah, I was unable to pick someone out of a photo lineup once too. There was some pressure -- "are you SURE" etc. Unfortunately, I was quite sure. I was a food stamp worker at the time, and I was quite sure that this guy was scamming me, and trying to get food stamps for free ($350 worth -- not just a whole lot). He had all the (minimal) paperwork and the (lame) story and I just didn't believe him. So I went to tell my supervisor (who didn't like me) that I was planning on denying him. She instructed me to grant him instead. So, well, I granted him, and made it clear on the case record that it was by specific direction. About 4 months later the police came by with a picture -- turns out he'd done all of the food stamp offices in Houston (8) in the same day. This was before realtime computer updates, so we had no idea. However, as I said, I was completely unable to pick him out of the lineup. Dammit. I sure felt good with that statement in his case file, though. The vast majority of the food stamp frauds that I had were either nasty, or pimps, or nearly poor enough to get food stamps anyway. It's a pretty low-rate crime. Pimps always had "loan notes" from a number of girls. Always. And they just never had enough money to pay them back. But man they must've been nice -- friends gave them toilet paper, soap, and let them stay at houses without paying rent Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. daniel_owen_uk 0 #40 February 16, 2006 Funny story (if a little long); I was once in a police line up, was complete bull really, me and some friends went out for someone's birthday came home pretty wasted and on the way home Isupposedly vandalised someones car (I didn't). Well 4 months later I was called in for a lineup, the woman trying to ID me lived 200 yards from my home, I walk past her house at least 3 times a week. For a start how could she not pick me out. Well I am sure not a lot of people don' know this (and it might be UK specific), but the defendent and his attorney get to look through the lineup and remove anyone if they don't like how it looks. At the time I had a goatee and glasses, well they had pulled in a make up artist to do the beards (wouldn't have know unless they told me), but the glasses just looked stupid, I was 20 at the time so of course wearing designer frames, 8 of these guys had huge specs on, it was rather comical. I picked out one guy and said "he was the only person to come in with glasses on" (of course he was), wasn't exactly rocket science to work out that she only had 2 to choose from. Well turns out they had no other frames, so to make it "fair", is how my attorney put it, I wore some big daft glasses. Sat there in this line up couldn't see a damn thing. End of they day she said it was between me and this other guy that was looking at her all the time (tip for you, if you go to pick someone out of a lineup don't wear bright clothes and stand near to the glass). My attorney had it thrown out as she wasn't sure, he rocked tbh really new his shit.__________________ BOOM Headshot

Richards 0 #43 February 16, 2006 Not in a line-up. The closest to that is when I "assumed the position" against a police car with my hands on the roof and my feet way back and apart so I could be searched. Fortunately I had done nothing (honestly) so I was let go. Cheers, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. It's not that I really look all that criminal, but more a matter of you looking incredibly respectable. You're good looking. You like dignified and smart and responsible and trustworthy and like you actually care about things. It doesn't matter what you are like on the inside. When I see you, the first thought that goes through my head is something like, "Shit--I don't know what he does for a living, but I'd be ok with him doing brain surgery on me!". You just have that look. I, on the other hand, have nearly every character flaw known to mankind and look like it. [sigh] Yes, standing next to me you will never be the one who gets arrested!
