Squirrel went in

Recommended Posts

We have a few large trees in our back yard with a ton of Squirrel's in them. Yesterday I was working in the yard when I heard some noise above me. Not thinking too much about it I kept working, then all of a sudden I heard it even louder. I looked up and saw this brown item at about 15' AGL falling. My first thought was that it was a limb from the tree.
But then I realized it was a squirrel! The damn thing fell from 30'up, belly to earth.

Like I said I watched it from about 15' till impact. He hit in the boxman position. Belly to earth arms and legs spread out as big as possible....THUMP!!:o

He bounced, paused, shook it off and hauled ass away.:$

That had to of hurt, I mean he made a pretty good thump and bounced up about an inch before hitting again.

Funniest thing I have seen in a while.

So I wonder how much freefall time he got and how fast he was going?:)

Oh my gosh, had it not been for this sentence:

I would be kicking your bootie right now!:P

Oh c'mon--you've never seen a squirrel go in? Ounce for ounce, they are some of the most badass creatures I have ever seen. I would be truly scared if I had to confront a really angry squirrel.

I have seen one go in from 25 ft. or so and impact on cement and run away.

BTW, in case you haven't seen it, here's a video of my cat Zoe "playing" with some squirrels. Yes, it really is my cat--I shot the video in my apartment.

That story reminds me of the chipmunk Derek stepped on while on the trail running section of an adventure race. After getting stepped on and squeaking like a dog toy it got up brushed itself off, flipped off Derek and hauled butt into the woods.
Fly it like you stole it!

You have a cat, Zoe'?

Me, too!:o Zoe' and Sabre are my two precious pussy-cats:P

No, I have never seen a squirrel "go in". I feed a very sweet squirrel, whom I named Sasha (b/c only a female could be as ballsy as her), peanuts every time she stops in for a bite from the bird feeder I put up outside so the cats can bird-watch:P
Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Before I got Zoe, I fed the squirrels on my patio a bunch (I still do) and started letting them inside my apartment. They really hated coming in, but for pecans, squirrels will do nearly anything.

I trained them to jump on the couch and get food and got some funny video of it. After I got Zoe I stopped letting them inside but after I got to know Zoe really well I setup the thing for the video I linked to in the earlier posting.

I opened the sliding patio door a couple of inches (enough that Zoe could not get out) and put a pile of nuts at the opening. Zoe had been really fascinated with the squirrels and I knew she would react to them trying to get the nuts. Squirrels have incredibly fast reactions and I knew there was no real risk of her actually catching one in that situation.

Whenever I put the squirrel video on, she loves to watch it and swat at the squirrels. I don't know if she realizes that is her in the video or not.

Here is a pic of her royal highness.

Oh my gosh, she is so cute.

I don't have a picture of my Zoe' to attach, but she's all white on her bottom-half and legs, but her top-half is a mix of grey and gold. She's so cute, but really schizo:P She will not chase the squirrels but chatter at them.

Sabre, is super-fluffy mostly black, with solid white and gold tiger stripes. He's absolutely beautiful---but a little overweight---he gets his own sushi dinner on sushi night. (Zoe' is usually playing outside).

He will chase Sasha and Sasha always gets away (she hops on the fence. Sabre has never discovered he's a cat and could also scale a fence if he tried---he's never tried in the 3 years I've lived here:D). Then, once tired, you can find them both laying next to one another on the patio---seriously. It's really funny. We have pictures, but not on my computer. I'm really bad at that[:/]

But, it's a good story, no?;)

Well that kinda sucks--I wanna see pics!!!! I mean, gee, how can you have a sushi night for your cat and *not* take pics and post that?!!!

I gonna risk getting my guy card revoked by using this term, but they really sound adorable.

They are some tough little SOB's!!

I do enjoy watching them play around in the back yard.

As long as they stay off the roof of the house.

I broke out the sprinkler one time and that was fun! Well, I enjoyed itB|

Cool video.

Haven't seen them go in before - but I have seen a few blow up.

LOL

My guess is that they never felt a thing - usually raining and . . . a misstep from one powerline to another next to a transformer - makes a pretty blue ball and a large "Pop" ing sound.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

I've seen that too. Not pretty. Impressive for sure, but not pretty.
