DZ's in California

Recommended Posts

Yes, there are wind and rotor problems at every DZ. They just seem to be particularly bad at Elsinore when the wind is coming over the buildings, and there's no reliable way to know wind direction when you leave home to drive to the DZ. I've got a big, lightly loaded canopy, and getting tossed around by rotors can be really scary, so sometimes the conditions at elsinore are beyond my comfort level. I love the people at Elsinore...I just don't like the air sometimes. I hope it will be better when the DZ moves.

I'm glad Don is doing well and back airborne again, but keep in mind many people jump everyday there without problems. Wind and rotors are problematic at all dropzones.

Very true. But I prefer Perris because if it gets sketchy and I choose to land safe (read: a long walk back from the far edge of the landing area), they pick me up.. and I'm basically really lazy.

Both dropzones are nice; my experience has been that there's more RW at perris than elsinore (with a few notable exceptions, I just mean on any random day I showed up), but plenty of freeflyers at both.

Kinda like Strawberry or chocolate. Both are good, everyone has a preference. ;)

Ah true dat! They picked me up from the other side of the 215 once. :$

I like both dropzones. I've felt the rotors at Elsinore and I've felt rotors and dead air over the dirt road/runway in Perris. Byron has it's winds, Lodi has the freeway, Davis has Skybytch. Hey, not all dropzones are perfect.

she's gonna kill me for that one, hehehe
