PLFXpert 0 #1 February 22, 2006 Well, do you believe? From small things to big, what do you think? Do you have an example/personal story? I'll start... I definitely believe in mind over matter. I'm no expert by any means but for example: When I got my first tattoo, I focused so intently on the artist's non-inking hand that was steadied on the upper part of my back (the tattoo is on the ever-popular lower middle back) that I could actually feel his blood running through his palm, wrist & fingers. I did not feel the needle whatsoeverOf course...my second (and last) tattoo....that was a little different I wasn't so great then (But, for the record, I didn't find it painful. Neither tattoo is big or visible. Only one can you see if I'm in a very small bikini). Anyone else?Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. Andy_Copland 0 #2 February 22, 2006 Im not sure in mind over matter but i do believe some people cope better in certain situations than others, for example i was seriously injured in 2000 when some plonker decided to shoot me in the eye. Although my eye was in 3 pieces (think mercedes) i calmly got on to my knees and assessed the situation before phoning the ambulance and walking to an easy to identify location. Not until they reached me did my body finally pack in and things go dark. The human body truely is amazing....you got me thinking now 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue.

Tell more, what happened? I do believe in mind over matter, although at this point I just think about it in the terms of the power of the mind. It's so vast there's absolutely no doubt anymore for me. Specific instances (that exist) currently escape me, which tells me that not only is the mind powerful, it's snobby and is ignoring me just now... |>.<| Seriously, W.T.F. mate? skymama 37 #4 February 22, 2006 Anyone who has gone through lamaze would agree with you. While I wasn't crazy enough to go through natural births, I still went through the class and practiced the breathing during contractions. It definitely helps to put your mind in another place, control your breathing and think of something else during pain like that. I also applied the principle when I broke my wrists last year because I had to go 6 hours without any pain medicine from the time the accident happened to when one of my wrists finally got reset. Focusing on an object in a room and concentrating my breathing really helped me deal with the pain and not freak my kids out.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Buried 0 #5 February 22, 2006 eyes have no pain receivers.. it would be mostly a mental thing in the first place . as for thsi thread, yes sometimes we can exceed our potential, since most of us [on this website] only use 1% of our brain anyhow Where is my fizzy-lifting drink? Andy_Copland 0 #6 February 22, 2006 How come it hurts when i poke myself in my good one then :( It wasnt so much the pain i was refering to, more the way the body can react to situations without you realising it. Like an emergency auto pilot..........Well i know what i mean anyway 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue. My wife thought she had the mind over matter thing down pat and went for the natural childbirth. Right towards the end she changed her mind and asked for "the shot". Nurse looked under the coverlet and said, "Too late now, honeychile...It's a-comin'!" Wife changed her mind but it didn't matter. My reality and yours are quite different. PLFXpert 0 #13 February 23, 2006 I watched a documentary on the all things you might not realize the military spends money on. It was really interesting. I also read it in some news article about different research in general. I think it's really interesting stuffPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
