Hospitals overbilling?

Recommended Posts

I've worked in the industry for years. Generally it's not maliciousness, it's incompetence. Even incompetence is too harsh a word, it's just an industry where the systems are antiquated, the processes are inefficent. Many hospitals are lucky to get a bill out, let alone an accurate one.

Funny how the incompetence always results in their making more money, not less.

Au contraire! I am the IT manager for a corporate healthcare company. One of the biggest problems we have are LAZY NURSES who can't be bothered to log in to a computer system or scan a wristband to enter charges on a patient. They get a lot of free stuff. Just come to one of my hosptials I guess! :S

Yep. Irvine Medical just tried to bill me $400 that my insurance had ALREADY PAID. Took me about two hours on the phone with them and the insurance company to get it straightened out.

Medical billing is tricky business. Its always good to watch your bills and verify with your insurance that they've paid all covered charges.
