PLFXpert 0 #1 February 25, 2006 I just called mine and she is fucking hilarious I try to call all my grandparents once or twice/month. My family is not very close and come to find out, I'm the only grandchild any of them ever hear from I admit, at 25, sometimes you just forget or get busy, but when I call, I wonder why I didn't call sooner. They are the funniest people ever. My father's mom is Kentucky country all the way. In her thick down-home accent I got to hear all about the neighborhood gossip, her version of course. I wish I had taped it, as I know ya'll would appreciate how matter-of-fact and who-gives-a-rats-ass she is. But her points were always intelligent and wise. I just think we all need to stop and listen a little more, a little longer. It's so worth it Cherish this sappy moment from PLF, as they are mere hiccups amid the smart-assednessPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back. sunshine 2 #9 February 25, 2006 QuoteOK, ya'll....should I delete this? Seriously. Nope. The people that still have grandmas should call and appreciate them. I was lucky enough to be close to my grandma and talked to her and visited her often. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! PLFXpert 0 #10 February 25, 2006 OK But, I'm seriously considering pimping out mine now for ya'll. NWFlyer 2 #14 February 25, 2006 No, don't delete it. Mine have been gone for quite a while, too, but your stories remind me of my grandmother, who was "Tennessee Country." Brought a smile to my face. And the posts about not being able to call theirs just serve as a reminder that life is short and we shouldn't let days slip away without appreciating who/what we have. And for those who have already lost their grandmas or grandpas, then it can serve as a reminder of the same, and that we should call someone else important in your life whom you might not always call, as well as a time to reflect on the memories of loved ones who have passed. BigSky 2 #16 February 25, 2006 Im going to see my grandma on sunday night. She is the only person left in my family that still drinks so we useally get hammered. nate_1979 9 #18 February 25, 2006 Great thread... You must stay in contact with them as long as they are around, because you will regret it if you dont after it's too late.. They are probably thinking of you all the time, return the favor. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. Muenkel 0 #20 February 25, 2006 I don't have any grandparents either, so I adopted the grandma next door. Unfortunately she died in '02 at the age of 86. She was the best. She was born and raised in Sicily. Every year on my birthday she would bake for me homemade manicotti. She thought it was a hoot when I asked her if she would be my grandma. It really was a great relationship. So, I say, if you don't have a grandma or grandpa...go adopt one. You won't regret it.Chris _________________________________________ Chris
PLFXpert 0 #21 February 25, 2006 That's HILARIOUS! I love the movie While You Were Sleeping and there's the part where the grandma says in response to would she like some more wine "I don't drink anymore.....I don't drink any less, either" I love that! That movie reminds me of my hunny's family. They are all so crazy, but such good people and so much more family-oriented than mine.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. PLFXpert 0 #22 February 25, 2006 My hunny kind of adopted my grandpa. He used to fly in the navy WAAAAAY back then, and of course has done a jump or two, also WAAAAYY back then He tells a lot of stories, but we've all heard most of them a hundred times (but they're still really funny). So, he gets a real hoot out of Billy and vice versa. Actually, Billy has even gone to see him on his own as it's a nice Harley ride for him. Billy's grandpas both passed away when he was pretty young, so he never really had a grandpa. He's absolutely in love with mine, and vice versa, and that's just fine by me I really do love my grandpa so much. He's just as big of a smart ass as the rest of usPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
PLFXpert 0 #23 February 25, 2006 Oooooo, thanks for the head's up Andrea He has his good weeks and bad. I will let them know and hopefully they can make it. If you're there, they'll be in the green SUV (I can't remember what kind they just got) watching from the parking lot. It's a little hard for him to get out anymore and walk around But, he still really enjoys it. Speaking of which, I just looked in my log book and it's been 2 years since I've jumped in Deland! And now that I know RL is there and a lot of other great dz.com'ers are close by, I really think we need to plan a get-together SOON!Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. skymama 37 #24 February 25, 2006 QuoteI really think we need to plan a get-together SOON! It's not just a POP's boogie next weekend, it's a regular boogie too. A lot of the regulars should be there. PLFXpert 0 #25 February 25, 2006 Rats Next weekend I'm having new carpet installed in the bedrooms. But, keep me posted. Billy and I have been talking about getting down to Deland for the past 2 months. Soooo, give it another 2 months and we might actually get there A little inspiration, like a get together would do the trick, thoughPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
