SkydiveStMarys 0 #1 February 26, 2006 Or do you hate it because, at your age, you wore that shit as a child?? I like some of it..bell bottom jeans...some of the "old" tees that are out there with different sayings on them....The whole Boho look I have always liked, but thats because I am a pot head and a Stevie Nicks fan. PLFXpert 0 #3 February 26, 2006 I would call myself boho-chic I had my first bells at 12, long necklaces, clogs. Think Chloe' The first pair of shoes I ever bought myself (rather than bought by my parents) were clogs. My father thought they were hideous and I insisted on having them. I was 12, and I did SOOOOO many extra chores to earn those bad-boys! Chloe' is always great. Alberta Ferretti, Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Monique Lhuillier & Blumarine are current faves as well. Carolina Herrera, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Missoni, Prada, Donna Karen & BCBG are usually loved by me. Contrary to their popularity though, I rarely like D&G (in fact, most of the time I find it an expensive way to look cheap), Dior or Versace. Chanel, Valentino, YSL & Burberry are beautiful on friends, but not my style. My closet, however, is mostly Banana Republic & BCBG with several of the greats listed above here & there You've opened a can of worms, darling THIS is my subjectPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back. SkydiveStMarys 0 #4 February 26, 2006 "Banana Republic & BCBG" Me too!! I think we need to raid each others closets!! I just got hooked on BCBG about two years ago. PLFXpert 0 #5 February 26, 2006 Stella McCartney is wonderful b/c her entire line is 100% animal-friendly. BCBG is fun and versatile. Yes, we must definitely raid sometime Oh, and I know it's redundant, but I am absolutely LOVING Blumarine right now. That one might take over, soonPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back. PLFXpert 0 #8 February 27, 2006 Oh, forgot to add: I'm also recently obsessed with Cole Hann shoes I bought two pair of the Air flats a while back--one in black faux snake and one in brown faux croc. They are SOOOOO great b/c they look chic but are like tennies in the sole/bottom (Cole Hann teamed up with Nike Air---which is OK to buy now---you wouldnt' have caught me dead in Nike in previous years). A couple weeks ago, I picked up a pair of the Kina Wedges in white linen. SOOOOOO cute, very nautical which is haute now I'm considering going back and getting the same shoe in dark brown zebra-stripped. VanillaSkyGirl 6 #13 February 27, 2006 Quote"very nautical which is haute now" Caaaan't gooo there! Please don't make me!!!! Don't worry about "going there" with Nautical themes for the spring because there are always several themes that us designers put out there for our customers each season. In case you're wondering how we all end up with the similar trends and themes, we all use certain fashion forecasting systems directly from Europe/around the world within the industry as a base for our lines' directional creativity. (Personally, I also love to look at Japanese street fashion for myself, even if I don't use it.) Anyway, trend reports are tried and true, although we each have our ideas of what WE want to see out there and why. Even couture designers heavily rely on trend forecasting as a base, although we (designers) all, of course, love to try new ideas depending on what is happening in the world, society, art/theatre subcultures, etc. My advice for anyone regarding fashion and clothes is don't worry too much about being "in fashion", just go with your personal style. You probably look great just as you are, as long as you feel comfortable with yourself. I agree with you and I have the same arguments with my daughter. Her store of choice is Hollister right now where jeans start at $50. When we shop for clothes, I tell her that she has a set amount of money to spend for everything. I tell her that if she wants to spend 1/2 that on 1 item, that's fine, but she better want to wear it quite often! She'll usually blow part of it on a pair of jeans, but then she will go to a store like Ross for a heap of shirts. (She is waaaaay over paid but I cant change that. (14 and making $10 an hour to work in a Family owned Coffee Shop is a little ridiculous but I have no control over that.) I don’t even want to see her spend her own money on something like that. It just seemed like such a waste to spend a $100 on a $10 tee-shirt just because it had L.A.M.B. printed on it no matter who’s money it was. I think even allowing her to waste her own money is not a good lesson. Women’s fashion has always been a little bit of a pet peeve of mine. The same exact Tee-Shirt on a women’s Rack will cost twice as much as the same shirt on a Mens Rack. Same shirt. Same production cost. Yet women are willing to spend more therefore they charge more. I hate to see people get ripped off like that. I would rather teach her to be sensible when it comes to buying things. Paying 3 to 4 times (or more) than what something is actually worth is not good. Thanatos~ I agree that pricey clothing for teens is not necessary. Tell your daughter that she could always throw in some vintage,thrift-store or Harajuku-type pieces of clothing, along with one pricier item, like Gwen does, and create her own unique look. If she's a fan of Gwen Stefani, then she must realize that vintage/thrift store finds would be more authentic to Gwen's look than buying a specific designer's clothing.
