Duckwater 0 #4 March 2, 2006 I can put some perspective on this. I have flown and skydived a lot. Not that I would ever admit to flying under a bridge or power lines, but if I did, it would be fairly simple and does not require a lot of skill. You establish a trajectory towards the opening and you hold it. Linear. It is easy to miss a solid object when you dont have to factor in an a parabola that is energy and altitude dependent. Doing a split S, http://www.rapp.org/archives/2004/01/thunderbird_crash/ is far more dangerous due to the fact that you have to peg the maneuver seconds before the accuracy counts. Doing a low level split S is the most dangerous thing a pilot can do. I would rather fly through that hole than do a low level split S. Oh yeah, a low level split S is exactly the same thing as a hook turn. --
micro 0 #5 March 2, 2006 i understand your points. but still, add the speed of an su-27 or 30 and the hole in the wall seems to shrink a fair amount. still, linear blah blah and all that, but it's still an increased risk. ah well... guess it's just a walk in the park for ya then... Agreed...but the line you hold gets more stable as you increase speed. That is why the blues fly closer than civilian prop planes. Regardless...I would pay good money to see this. But, it will never be as impressive as Jurgis Kairys in Lithuania in his Sukhoi.... A half snap to inverted, right before the bridge, and an arching parabola under, push up and slide sideways....All with thousand of people on the bank and Mikka Hakkinens F1 Mclaren on the bridge.. http://www.inna.lt/kairys-video02.html -

SBS 0 #8 March 2, 2006 That is pretty cool. Considering how close the Blue Angels fly, etc., 75 feet at the narrowest seems like it would be fairly straight forward for a pilot of that caliber. Still impressive, though. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
