Chocolate and Sushi

Well, this week's junk mail (how do I get on these mailing lists?) had two new weird tests:

What Sushi Are You? which I couldn't take because I don't eat raw fish, and

The Box of Chocolates Test, which says I'm a coconut truffle.

I hate coconut. :S I'm pretty sure it missed on the personality traits too:

You are a smooth coconut truffle: Creamy coconut filling accented with coconut flakes, in a milk chocolate shell.

Soft and irresistably sweet. I would label you as an introvert though....you prefer to keep more to yourself or small groups than to be at a wild party. But you're a lovely person and friend, someone that others can truly count on. And you see the world through rose-colored glasses, which is getting harder these days, so hold onto that optimism :)

The sushi one is funny because my ex-BF's favorite sushi is Salmon Skin Handroll. I do love coconut and chocolate truffles, too.

I had salmon for dinner, but I cooked it first.

Well, my father used to do a lot of fishing. And so, I used to do a lot of gutting. I have a lot of experience with raw fish, and it's a wonder I'll still eat fish at all.

I know that's still vague, but this is supposed to be a nice thread.

Let's just say I prefer my parasites to be well cooked before they reach my stomach. :|

There has never been a reported incidence of parasites in cold-smoked salmon (lox), mostly because the salmon is a) aquacultured and b) frozen before brining and smoking.

I googled for this:

Salmon used in sushi gives you a 1 in 10 chance of consuming a roundworm from the “amisakis family” of parasites, according to the FDA in samples from 32 restaurants.

I have a germaphobic friend that was really convinced in college, she had a tapeworm:D:D:D She won't eat sushi, either[:/]

The best sushi-grade fish IS frozen. Typically it's immediately frozen after the catch and defrosted just before preparing.

But, my favorite sushi joint buys fresh-catch daily and then the rest is of the previously frozen type mentioned.
