Guest #1 February 26, 2006 Darren McGavin, perhaps best recently known for his role as the curmudgeonly father in "Christmas Story" passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 83. McGavin starred in several feature films and TV shows, including the cult favorite "Kolchak, the Night Stalker". He also had guest roles on just about every TV drama in the 60s and 70s. McGavin had a likeable, easy-going charm that I always enjoyed. I always wanted to meet him, but now I won't. Not in this world, anyway. Go easy, Darren. mh
monkycndo 0 #2 February 26, 2006 Don Knotts died yesterday. Whether you remember him as Barney Fife, The Incredible Mr. Limpitt, or Mr. Farley, his acting "style" is hard to replace. Andy Griffith said he was a small man with a very big heart. edit- Didn't see the thread already somewhere else in Bonfire. Ooops.
GogglesnTeeth 6 #3 February 26, 2006 I loved "The Incredible Mr. Limpitt." One of my favorite Don Knotts movies of all time. That and anything he did teamed up with Tim Conway. "The Apple Dumpling Gang" movies. I grew up with all of those!!! Blue Skies Barney Fife!Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!"

He was great in Christmas Story. Deuce, Chris Carter, producer of "The X-Files" said that "Kolchak, the Night Stalker" was one of his main inspirations. If you think about it, you can hear a lot of Kolchak's wry humor concerning the supernatual and macabre echoed in dialog spoken by David Duchovny as Fox Mulder. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." I remeber it being pretty dark stuff and just a wee bit cynical.
Michele 1 #7 March 6, 2006 My Dad went to Darren's memorial/funeral today. He said it was great, as far as these things go. He and Dad were decent friends for many, many years. Brilliant actor, with an incredible sense of irony and humor...and Darren will be missed. Dad's feeling it tonight.
