The treatment(s) for throat /oral cancer is quite harsh especially if both chemo and radiation are used. In addition, the pain drugs that are dispensed are not known for being "mild" ie:phentanyl, dilaudid, morphine, etc. I'd say that just his being here and looking like a SURVIVOR is a very cool thing and his concerns are not likely having the looks he did when he was in his twenties!
