Even the fact that the shifting sands of the rules here are essentially advertised as such does little to ease the frustrations of those impaled upon the whim of the mods.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. champu 1 #57 March 6, 2006 Quoteso where's the shrine of john rich and whatsit all about? can't get no connection Which raises an interesting question. Does the average person hover over links and check the status bar to see where they might be headed? or is blind clicking more the norm?
NtheSeaOrSky 0 #58 March 6, 2006 QuoteIn Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is that a general rule, or does it only go into effect if the person whose avatar is being used objects? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nope, it's not a general rule. It's a moderator judgement call. I've asked Alex to change his avatar, because I think it creates confusion in our community, and I believe that one of the fundamental principles of this community (and almost any on-line community) is that people should have consistent identities. Note the use of the word "asked" in the above sentence. I'd prefer that we work at that level. Just out of sheer curiosity, did the other posters using 'confusing' avatars of another person get asked as well? .Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... Please cease the use of my photo immediately, and do not do this again. I'd like to see you litigate that. All these folks who use the images of public figures, as well as of their friends, are going to be SOL if you win. It's not about litigation, it's about Alex taking responsibility for his actions and doing what is right. I am not a public figure. I take my integrity seriously, and people associate that image with me and what I write. I don't want my integrity compromised by AlexCrowley hijacking my image and fooling people into thinking that I'm the author of the inane things that he says. A private individual ought to have exclusive rights over their own image. Period. If Alex doesn't remove it from his profile, I'll be forced to remove it as my own thumbnail photo and just leave a blank white void there. This would set a bad precedent for the forum... Readers like to have a face to associate with a writer. If someone is going to compromise that system, it makes the forum more impersonal, and then we all lose.
