diverdad 0 #1 March 11, 2006 WIfe and I will be in SF bay area next Friday and are heading to Piet 39 for the afternoon. Is it worth going to? We were going to see Alcatraz until I called a found out they were sold out of the night tour until Sunday. So, we thought we'd just hang out there until evening and find a place to stay. We are going to Six Flags on Saturday and Lodi on Sunday(weather permitting). Oh, another quick question. Are thre ferries all people only or does the bay run some car ferries also? Thanks. FIREFLYR 0 #2 March 11, 2006 Im born and raised in sf, I had a friend come visit recently, if you go to the pier, make sure you see the Sea Lions!!!! everything else is just over priced shopping for crap. If it is raining (or not) the academy of sciences/aquarium is well worth the trip. see The ocean. GG bride is cool if you've never been. the De Young museum in golden gate park is really cool if you are in to that sort of thing. If you want to go to a certain kind of restaurant or have any other interests...just ask, I am a wealth of information ~bay car ferries what? where are you staying? ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"

diverdad 0 #4 March 11, 2006 Up in Seattle we took a car ferry from Bremerton to Seattle and it was very cool. I wondered if SF had a ferry that would carry vehicles also. Our plane is suppose to come into Oakland about 2 pm. and then we'll probably do the GG bridge thing and then the pier. Scott we don't know where we are staying yet
FIREFLYR 0 #5 March 11, 2006 SF isn't cheap, are you renting a car? OAK is about a 1/2 hour drive into the city. Who are you with? wife or wife and kids? for a small, clean quiet room in the sunset, you can get away with paying about $70 a little nicer near lombard st. about $115 no skydiver discounts but they might take AAA. ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
lauras 0 #6 March 11, 2006 Holy crap! I thought I was the only person born & raised in San Francisco!!! St. Mary's on Stanyan... You? To the OP: I was just back there last week. I'll second the deYoung and the Japanese Tea Garden in GG Park. The Museum of Modern Art is pretty good as well and in walking distance from the shopping in Union Square. You'll also get the aggro homeless experience, but it goes with the territory. PM if you'd like restaurant suggestions. I did take my parents to the Cliff House for brunch (my dad worked there as a waiter when he was a student) and was pleasantly surprised for a "tourist" spot. The view is great too. FIREFLYR 0 #7 March 11, 2006 um, the cliff house is a little pricy now and since it has been remodeled I can't respect it much. Anyhow if a great meal is what you are after i can recommend an awesome spot. Im born, raised...and still here... ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
