Shana Richardson's story is on the Discovery Channel right now.

edited to add:
Fuck, they showed her BF's air to air video of her spiraling down. This is really making me cringe.

The segment ended with her saying, "...I'll do it right next time."

I hope so.

Is that the show "I shouldn't be Alive"?

SHe got lucky her and her BF should have listened to the DZo who said "no".

This will be my 1 and only post on the whole subject.
Now I am off to SC to be ENLIGHTENED!:P

"The Year's Most Dangerous Survival Stories".

Good luck in SC! It gets ugly in there.

How many shows does this make now that she has sold her story to?

Expect more. She has stated that she has a number of shows lined up for when her baby is borned and for her triumphant return to skydiving.

I have no idea, but I can see why they are buying her story. No matter what you think of her actions before, during, or after the jump, it *is* a dramatic story.

Yes, I know what they show is not the whole story by any means, nor does this type of television show the *real* heroes--the people who *prevent* this type of accident from happening in the first place, but the accident did happen and it can easily be presented as a dramatic story.

Interesting. This story is so well known, who the fuck is going to let her jump on their DZ? Unless she takes all of her endorsement money and buys a DZ, I don't see her jumping any time soon.

In all honesty, I do feel bad that she has all of these medical bills dumped on her with no insurance. Hopefully she will raise some money from TV appearances to pay for her medical stuff.

Remember when she showed up around here saying she was broke and not making any money off any of this?

Yeah, right.

Why would they not allow her to continue her training, it's not as though she intentionally went in just to piss off the DZO.
Moreover, if they do televise her re-entry to the sport, where ever she does it has the opportunity for free publicity, and handles properly could be very advantageous to the DZ
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

Ummmm.... Neither her, her bf, nor any of the press willing to publicize her near Darwin award winning performance has shown any reasonable sense. What would happen to the DZ should she do something else stupid, go in and have tons of National Press there to cover it? I'd think most DZOs would say no thank you.

And if her return to skydiving were uneventful, then what? Do we really want people who've dragged this sports image thru the media to be our poster children to the rest of the world? Will her baby be some kind of twisted Harry Potter type because "he's the boy that lived?"

Kudos to Shana and her BF for taking a tragic accident and turning into opportunity. Just wish they had done something truly remarkable and amazing rather than almost killing Shana and her child...

I just don't know what to think about this anymore.B| Suppose I'll just go smoke jump into a raging forest fire to save 10 families and their homes. And at the end of the day, I'll hit up all the homeowners for some cash and hassle the media about how cool I am.

That was discused in an earlier "Shayna Richardson spam" thread.

Having medical bills 'dumped on her' is complete bullshit. She chose to skydive without medical insurance.

Yeah don't we all sign those waiver thingies that say skydiving is dangerious, and we may get injured, or ever die. Also I am sure there is something in there about us being aware of the risk inherent in skydiving.

Yeah, I know, it's true. While we do sign the papers and know what we're getting into, it would certainly suck to have an accident, and on top of being fucked up, have thousands of dollars in bills to pay.

Not saying that what she did was right, just looking at it from a different point of view, that's all.
