Its gonna get ugly. Kick, punch, scratch, gouge, headbutt, elbow, knee, spit and most importantly SHOUT! When you get a chance get the hell out of there. My brother got picked on in the town by some twat. My brother, being the mild mannered guy that he is didnt want anything to do with it and offered to shake the guys hand as a 'i dont want no trouble gesture'. He got punched in the face and fell down like a sack of shit. I personally think more people should do self defence classes. I dont even mean on a regular basis. A decent weekends course with a yearly refresher. So many techniques you can learn to maximise your safety. Whether that will help you with a gang is another matter. IMPORTANT: Some warning signs so you know when someones about to go and spank you all round the room... Clenched fists (obvious) Standing tall (intimidation) On tip toes (as above) Looking down (subconcious reaction to guard neck) Increased rate of breathing Nervous fidgeting (adrenaline at work) Wide body position (subconcious to look big and for stability) Skin colour is white (blood is rushing to muscles ready for fight or flight reflex - if someones red with anger then they probably arent going to hit you) Fixed gaze - (intimidate/phsych themselves up) Silence. (generally someone wont shout when they are about to strike out. Beyond reason at this point) If someone is acting like this you need to think about your options. Some will even hold their breath while they are having a fight. I've shouted when I've had to strike out and most people trained in a self defence or martial art will do so too. Not billy the street fighter though in my experience. Its good deterrant. I dont know any super martial arts but I was taught (and I paticularly like this) the palm heel strike amonnst other techniques. Nothing but a firm but fearsome two handed push in the aggressors chest whilst screaming on the top of your lungs 'GET BACK!' or similar. You'll be surprised how much power you can generate and therefore space you'll put between yourself and them with this, giving you chance to turn and run. I've seen it action loads of times and its a beauty, so simple to. Had a camera crew out on the streets with us for a UK police program and this poor lad started on one of my colleagues. When we watched the video we couldn't believe the distance that lad covered. Because he was off guard, distracted by the shouting, got stuck first and was off balance and also partly because this paticular officer is rather strong. I STILL SUGGEST YOU RUN AWAY IF POSSIBLE! I tried to find a video on the internet but I couldn't find one of a good demonstration. Very funny too. Note the defender standing in bladed stance, smalelr body area presented to aggresor and also looks non threatening but allows you to generate power. Being 16 and knowing i couldnt take this guy i simply said "Is that it? my mum spanks me harder than that?" The police inform me hes a traveller who's always in trouble and just out of prison for violence. The dude was 24, hope he felt big when i didnt even hit the deck.. Oh yea just to rub salt in the woud because they didnt do an official ID of him, they asked who it was at the scene and i said him so he got away with it.
