OK. 1st thing: no telling me how inferior ipods are :P

Now that the groud rules have been established ;), I installed the SW and I'm trying to use ephpod as my interface, but I cant because the ipod isnt showing up as a connected drive in Explorer (I run XP).

Any tips on what could be wrong to explain why it isnt shoewing up in Explorer? I did get itunes loaded up as part of the install, and that works fine as an interface.

OK, Deal. But if you spell ipod backwards thats what the people who use them are.:P

Did ya try hitting F5? :P Sounds like you might have a conflict, check to see if there is a port or USB problem with the dopi being plugged in.

For Ephpod to work does the iPod have to be set up to be usable as an external drive?

If so, connect your iPod, and in iTunes open the preferences, click on the iPod tab and enable external disk usage.

At least, that's what I have to do with my old 2nd gen iPod for it to show as a drive....ymmv.

Why not use iTunes? (Thanatos - restrain your self, restrain yourself;))

stupid question but did you restart the PC? When I install drivers for a USB device, I'll usually unplug the device restart the PC then plug it in.

Not related to Ephpod, but: AFAIK there is no "setting up" needed to make your iPod an external disk. It always shows up as one (or should, hence the original poster's concerns), and I use that capability all the time to carry large files (photo, video, whatever) around.

Here's what the Apple SUpport site in iPod 101 has to say...

If you haven't already figured it out by now, you can use any iPod model as an external hard drive, allowing you to copy files onto it and shuttle items from one computer to another. This comes in handy if you need to work on projects at the office or school and at home, or you want to transfer your digital music collection from your old computer to a new one. Here's how to enable this feature.

Show me how

Connect your iPod to your computer.
Open iTunes (if it isn't open already), then open iTunes preferences (Mac users, choose Preferences from the iTunes menu; Windows users, on the Edit menu, click Preferences).
Click the iPod tab, then click the Music tab in the iPod pane.
Select the "Enable disk use" checkbox, then click OK.
Your iPod should now appear as a mounted volume on your desktop (Mac) or in My Computer (Windows). To copy files for transport, simply drag any file onto the iPod volume icon, or double-click the volume, create a new folder (or folders), and copy items to it.

----->>>>>

I guess another question I have for Remster is: Do you have the iPod formatted for Windows?

Go to the Apple Support website and check out the iPod Support...it will answer this for you...I have to get back to work and that's all that I can do for you right now.

Good luck.

I have a bigger problem with my iPod. I got a fragrance bead jammed in the headphone jack. :| I can't get it out! >:(

use a shopvac

I tried using a needle to poke a hole in it. The needle just comes out. So I put superglue on the needle and tried it again. Didn't work either.

That did the trick! And before you people say it, there wasnt a manual to read :P

You don't need a manual when you have us here Remi ;)

Glad it worked for you,
