Get yourself a decent pair of headphones. You can get Koss Portapro's for 50 bux with a lifetime warranty. Believe me, the difference is immense. Stop wearing the earbuds to let everyone know how awesome you are. Just like everyone else. b) In line with 1) The guy who just holds his iPod. He is not fiddling with it. He has pockets and yet he still has it in his hand. Why? In anycase, I like the iPod and when my Dell DJ dies, I may pick one up if the current gen of Dell Dj's sucks at the time. I swear to god some people will say that breathing sucks because everybody does it now, and they were big in the breathing scene back when it was underground. GTAVercetti 0 #28 March 3, 2006 QuoteA very limited device? It just needs to play music, which it does extremely well. What else do you want it to do? Check your e-mail? Sheesh. And no third-party software is needed to move files on and off if you're just using it for storage. Plug it into a Windows / Mac / Linux box via USB or FireWire and it shows up as another hard drive. Nothing could be simpler. But I want it to do it WIRELESSLY!!! And I want it to read my mind and know what I want on it!!!! Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. Definitely agree on Look At My iPod Guy, too I will admit though... I got a free integrated iPod Nano lanyard/headphone thing. I'd never ever use it, I thought, until I realised it's perfect for skydiving. I can wear the iPod under my shirt, and right before I go out the door, I take out the headphones and tuck 'em under my shirt, too. Nightingale 0 #30 March 3, 2006 I've got the new 60g video ipod. I love it. I've got about 7000 songs on it now, and I still have room for whatever photos I feel like storing, and I can download an episode of a tv show (usually CSI in my case, but there's a lot of options) to watch at lunchtime. sundevil777 102 #31 March 3, 2006 Why do you think you want to get the Ipod and not a competitior? If I wanted to give it to someone for use at a construction site, I sure as hell wouldn't want it to be expensive. A hard drive is definitely a bad idea. I bought my kids these for $58 (only 1/2 MB, but you can pay more for more memory), they have been great, and I do use the FM radio sometimes: http://www.shopzilla.com/12--SanDisk_Sansa_M230_512_MB_MP3_Player_-_cat_id--499__prod_id--353019351 edit: Even at only 0.5 MB, they will hold about 300 songs at max compression WMA format. I compared the quality of max vs min compression and couldn't tell a difference, but I'm not an audio nut type so I don't have a well trained ear or high standards. They are really good units to my unsophisticated tastes.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. riddler 0 #35 March 3, 2006 I don't think iPods suck - but iTunes definitely sucks! If you use only Windows, and aren't opposed to giving your money to a Singapore company, instead of an American one, check out the Creative Labs Zen Vision. I have an iPod mini and I like it a lot, but wish I had more room - if I were to buy another, I would get the 60 gig iPod with video capability.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. karenmeal 0 #36 March 3, 2006 Wow!! That sure stirred things up, glad to get a response. He wants the nano for the durability aspect, he'll be using it mainly at work. (He's in construction.) However, this boy is music obsessed. He has an unbelievable amount of music and it's all on iTunes. That is what he likes the best. So it's going to be an iPod. Not another brand. But I worry that he'll be dissapointed with the storage of the nano and that maybe we should just get the 30gb one.... Hmm.. decisions. Oh yeah, another reason he wants a nano is because it won't skip because there are no moving parts. I think that is a bad argument.. I didn't know that mp3 players had issues with skipping? Anyways.. so is the agreement that the nano is the more durable iPod? DeepThought 0 #39 March 3, 2006 I got myself a Nokia N70 for a phone. With a 1GB memory card, it holds enough music for my needs. and it means you only need to cary one device around with you. -------------------------------------------------- You only have one life, make the most of it. Guest 1010 #40 March 4, 2006 Quote maybe we should just get the 30gb one.... to have cd-quality music, get the 60gb one ... seriously ... I found that MP3 doesn't have great quality and use Apple Lossless instead, which runs about 10mb / ripped minute. Quality counts if you are going to feed it into a real stereo. get the Nano if just for jogging or traveling or work, but when I worked construction there was no way I'd wear one, needed ears for safety. You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.

karenmeal 0 #43 March 4, 2006 60 gb is out of my price range. Besides, no plans to feed the songs into a real stereo.. that's what all the other equipment is for! So we went to the store and got the 30gb with the extended warranty. Now I've lost my boyfriend though... he won't stop playing with his new toy. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

SkyDaemon 0 #46 March 4, 2006 I got the 60GB one in June and hooked up an auxillary input to my car stereo and I can play all my songs in my car as well as through the headphones. It's pretty easy to do as well. The 60GB one is a little bigger than the others, but it's really nice. I highly recommend it. :-) -=Raistlinfind / -name jumpers -print; cat jumpers $USER > manifest; cd /dev/airplane; more altitude; make jump; cd /pub; more beer;

LukeOliver 0 #48 March 4, 2006 This thread is nutty. So many truths, half truths, nothing but the truths... Karen. - Batteries don't last. - Hard disk units suffer at altitude. - You'll need a computer with a media manager to sort out music for whatever player you buy him. The various bits of specialist advice offered here about hacking iPods, music formats, yada yada are great but beyond someone who just wants to listen to music (read the last six words again before you complain folks). It's a moving target, evolutionary model, etc. There is a reason Apple (whom I hold no allegiance to, believe me) flog millions of iPods whilst the other products rot on the shelves. K.I.S.S. Music player? iPod. Skydiving? Nano. Size? Biggest one you can afford. Durability? Plan to replace your music player every two years or so. Don't be baffled by the bullsh*t. Miss you :-) L. diverds 0 #49 March 4, 2006 You can't go wrong with an iPod. Get the 60 if you can, 30 if you need to save the $100. I have an iPod 60 gig and an iRiver 1 gig. The iRiver is better suited for recording, but for playing your music there is just no comparison. The navigation on the iPod is the easiest out there by far. Other mp3 players are very awkward to navigate especially if you have thousands of songs on them. Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Get an iPod. You won't regret it.
