Posting the poll made your opinion pretty clear, I'm afraid. Regardless of whether your answer is "responsible" or "not responsible" it's still clear that you put "shagging a fat bird" on the same regrettability scale as cheating.

Want to know why I'm offended? Because I'm a former "fat bird" who allowed myself to be marginalized for years by men with that attitude (before I realized that it's much preferable to be ignored by men than used by them). I think your attitude and the attitude of guys who think like that sucks and that your poll sucks. Hell, even after massive weight loss there's lots of guys out there who would still consider me unworthy of anything but a drunken fuck, but y'know what? In a way, I'm kind of enjoying watching the carnage because they are jumping on you instead of me.

I have no problem with the poll being in poor taste--there are a lot of posts here, including many from me, that are in very poor taste. The problem is that your poll is a very mean-spirited kind of humor. I'm not saying that you are a mean-spirited person, but the post is *definitely* mean-spirited toward women.

I don't know how it is the the UK, but here in the US, the overwhelming majority of women are *extremely* sensitive about their weight and think they are overweight. It doesn't matter whether they really are or not--they tend to think they are. Unfortunately, they think that being overweight makes them truly ugly and there is no shortage of people who will confirm that for them and that's what your poll does.

The reason you are getting nasty responses to the polls is that in the US, a great many women have spent years trying to *not* think of themselves as ugly and fat and those who have managed to get past that are well aware of the damage that can be done by "fat chick" jokes and the like.

Especially in regard to women, this is a youth and beauty-oriented culture and both are defined in rather narrow terms, leaving most feeling not very good about themselves. You would be really surprised at how many truly beautiful women don't think of themselves as being attractive at all. It's astounding, and in a really bad way.

There really isn't any equivalent thing for men that I can think of. If a woman has sex with you and then later tells you that she wanted to have sex with the ugliest guy she could find, you'll probably laugh and not give a fuck because you got laid! It's just not like that with women. They are brought up with an enormous pressure to *be* beautiful and are left feeling severely beaten down when they don't *feel* beautiful. Trust me on this--I'm not exaggerating at all.

You're in a no-win situation on this one, my friend, and I think your best course of action is to simply apologize, learn from the experience, and PM a moderator, asking them to delete this thread.

I might add that it is such a sensitive issue that I can almost guarantee you that I will be attacked for making this post, and IMO there is *nothing* demeaning toward women or overweight people in it. The topic is just that sensitive.
