airtwardo 7 #1 March 19, 2006 Why does the word "Icon" when typed into the text of a post...then become a 'link' to the Icon website? I didn't 'link' it for THIS post, yet there it is?! Is it a glitch, or intentional? The links below illustrate what I'm talking about too, one is mine the other someone elses. I'm sponsored by another manufacturer, don't want 'my guys' to think I'm a turncoat! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2127819#2127819 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2132232#2132232 ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Ron 10 #6 March 19, 2006 QuoteIs it a glitch, or intentional? Paid ad. Websites get paid by advertisers for certain words. bob.dino 1 #9 March 19, 2006 Icon Aerodyne Icon Aerodyne edit: open and close a tag in the middle of the word and it doesn't link. If this continues, I'll cancel my Premier membership. It is, in my opinion, crossing the line by turning editiorial material into advertising. edit2: that complete Aerodyne rig I was planning on purchasing? If this feature doesn't go, I'll buy something else.

bob.dino 1 #11 March 20, 2006 Aerodyne Whee. The whole thing is pretty screwed up. If I try to link the word Aerodyne to anything (the link above should go to PD's site ), it gets overwritten. Therefore any existing content on this site linking anywhere other than the Aerodyne website will be masked and effectively lost. Never mind that a post in History & Trivia talking about an appeal to purchase a headstone for a deceased skydiver and icon of the sport is now an advertisement for a harness/container. I think I'll stop now; I'm getting all worked up and pissed off. I'll give it a fortnight before cancelling my membership.
NWFlyer 2 #12 March 20, 2006 Good points,Dave. It is a slippery slope. I understand the need for funds to support the site, and obviously, I yet to pay for my postwhoring through premier membership. But this, while damn slick functionality for advertisers could get really ugly, really quick, particularly if it doesn't exclude brand names that are also common English words."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
