caspar 0 #1 March 20, 2006 hi everyone, i live in the UK. i will be going to perris in a week and at the end of the trip i will be buying my 1st rig, ive bee hearing of sales tax, import duties of up to 40% (sending to the UK) plus VAT could be included on that (UK equivalent of sales tax - its 14% i think). can some PLEASE help me and tell me the ways of avoiding all these taxes as ive heard its possible. ive heard about delivering it out of california, picking it up myself from perris and flying it back, getting someone to carry it back, getting the dealer to send a box of newspapers o the UK and someone picks it up in perris. etc any help would be great"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading." Nightingale 0 #2 March 20, 2006 If you pick it up at Perris and fly it back with you, you'll probably avoid VAT. You will have to pay california state sales tax (about 7.75-8%). If you have it shipped to someone outside of california, you'll avoid sales tax, but pay shipping fees, which could be more expensive. I was looking into having my mom buy it (she was contributing some anyway), and getting it shipped to her Utah address. Shipping would have cost more than the sales tax on the rig (but it was a used rig), so I just picked it up at the DZ.
bob.dino 1 #3 March 20, 2006 If you get the rig while you're in Perris and jump it there, you should have no problems bringing it back to the UK. ps: a more descriptive title to this thread would've helped you get more useful answers
 caspar 0 #4 March 21, 2006 thanks for the replies. unforetuneately im ordering it while in perris. from the sounds of it, it would probably be cheaper to fly to perris and get it myself. hell, i suppose another trip to perris in 3 months time wouldnt be a bad reason for getting a credit card!"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading."
