I thought to myself, "Great!!"

QuoteI've tried it, but I'm like an alcoholic. Once I fall off of the wagon, I binge.
Me, too. Food, like alcohol, really can trigger addictive behavior in some people. Just as some of us can have one beer and stop, others can't. Same goes with food. I can't have "just one" piece of cake. I have to be 100% "on" a food plan, or I'm completely off. I've paid for it in the last few months as I've gained back a small portion of the weight I worked so hard to take off.
Of course, nutrition is more complex than people would like it to be, but at the root, it's simple (if that makes any sense).
The government has been pushing "one size fits all" eating (low fat) for far too long. Low fat works for some, doesn't work for a lot of people. That's starting to change, which is good, as they realize that not all fats are bad, and that the simple carbs that people choose so they can eat low fat can be equally unhealthy.
Then there's the fact that people look for a quick fix. "Oh, if I just cut white bread out of my diet, then I'll lose weight? Great! That's easy!" Not so simple.
Or, we take things to extremes, and end up with a "solution" that was worse than the original problem. "Eat low fat" the government says. So the food industry, smelling a business opportunity, responds with lots of low-fat foods. Trouble is, to make them taste good, they put lots of refined sugar in them. Oops.
And, of course, whether it's lower-fat or lower-carb or whatever, the fact that we're still eating far too much that is processed to within an inch of its life isn't a great thing for overall health, either. There's an obscene number of products for which the first ingredient is high fructose corn syrup.

Trick is (and it took me over 30 years to figure this out) is to figure out what foods/types of food don't work with your body chemistry, and avoid them. In my case, getting rid of processed food alone makes me feel a lot better. Adding onto that most refined foods/simple carbs ... and my body (and mind) are happier. Sugar and simple carbs make my brain chemistry go a little haywire... I'm hoping there will be more research done on those effects. What little has been done is interesting stuff.

QuoteAnyone else accidentally read it as, "White bread makes you fart?!!"
I thought to myself, "Great!!"
That explains the post-lunch stench on jump run. "But I had a sandwich, not a burrito!"

if you're fat, it's because you consume more calories than you burn. wanna lose weight? either cut your calories or increase your activity level. doing both is probably your best option.

If you are fat it's cause you eat too much white bread!!! That is that. Final word. Double stamped no erasies!!
kidding
but seriously white bread is evil

My wife is hotter than your wife.

I haven't read much about that. I've actually found what works for me to both lose weight and maintain weight (depending on what my goals may happen to be). What is healthy for me is, however, definitely different from what the USDA pushed for years, but much closer to the newer version of the food pyramid.
Not sure if I buy into the blood type thing, but maybe it'll at least encourage people to experiment with different types of food plans to find what they can live with on a long-term basis. Because that's ultimately what it's about - finding a way to eat that makes sense, not a "quick fix."

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. I dieted once by eating only ice cream, making sure the amount of calories I consumed in a day was lower than the calories I burned. I lost weight, but I couldn't continue to do that and remain healthy.
Everyone has their drug of choice. For those people who use food, it's hard to eliminate it altogether like an alcoholic can eliminate drinking adult beverages. Certain foods trigger complex reactions for those people. It's not simple at all.

it IS that simple and your example proves it, you just chose a single food to eat. if you would have taken the ice cream calorie count and changed the ice cream for balanced meals / snacks, your results would have been the same.
everything else is just a fad meal plan designed to sell books, frozen meals and memberships to diet "pity parties".

Your original post said nothing about balanced meals/snacks:

I spent 50 years trying different diets and ways of eating. I finally found a diet "pity party" that worked for me. I lost 112 pounds and have kept it off for three years. I didn't think it was a simple matter to find the right combination of food plan and support that I needed to do that. I'd still be overweight if I hadn't found what worked for me.

I've been on the BTD for almost a year and have had great results. I use the Live Right For Your Type book as a reference (That's the updated version to ER4YT). Also, the BTD forums are very informative. Dr. D'Adamo posts there regularly.
Being a Type O, yes, white bread does make me fat

And I plan to eat this way for the rest of my life. I wish I found it sooner.
47 lbs. and counting. Type O, Rh-, ISTP
