Too Hot or Too Cold?

Recommended Posts

Would you rather skydive when it is too hot or too cold?

When I’m packing in a metal-roof hangar in 90+ degree heat... high humidity... nylon draped around me... sweat pouring off of my face like a garden hose… I don’t even notice the hot flashes [aka energy surges; my inner child playing with matches].

Give me the heat any day over the cold.
What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy
ones? -- Monday.

Too hot for certain! I am a big wimp when it comes to cold and I find even jumping in the Fall to be unpleasant sometimes. I love the heat!

My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I really don't like either extreme, although I jump all year long. I think the coldest jump I've made it was 21 degrees on the ground. My fingers just didn't want to work at all... painful!

On my very first winter jump I was terrified that my fingers would be too frozen to, deploy my pilot chute. Perhaps may seem illogical now, but at the time, it was a real concern.

Too hot, definitely...

I haven't seen a "real" winter in 7 years since I moved to Florida and not being all that big (read skinny) I get cold way too easily. I handle the heat alot better than I do the cold....

I know a gal who thought that one time, at about 3000 feet ... so she went straight to her reserve. :S:D

I'll take the heat... That's what naked jumps are for. ;)

With a diet of cookies, hot chocolate, potato chips and ice cream???
If I even think about a Girl Scout Cookie, I'll gain a pound.
Oh oh, now I've done it...[:/]
This is really counterproductive for my diet...

Too hot.

It sucks on the ground, but all you have to do is an altitude clear and pulls and BAM everything feels good again. Since, atleast around here, when its WAY hot, its 70F at altitude and feels GREAT.

Why do we have to skydiving in the extreme heat or cold?! I pick NEITHER! This sport is supposed to be fun. Why torture yourself?
OK, we're all into torture. I know this. But I dislike either extreme equally. I'm allergic to the sun and cold makes my body hurt. Luckily we don't get many really hot days or really cold days where I live. Therefore I'm going to stand in the middle on this question. I realize that if your not living on the edge you'r taking up too much space and therefore I feel bad about this. Sorry.
Besides when you have to wear a hefty garbage bag like I do, in order to keep up with the big boys in freefall you really sweat in the heat and freeze in the cold! Not fun! Don't make me go there!

Definitely too hot.

I've done CRW in weather that SEEMED mildly cold on the ground, but after 10-15 minutes in the air under canopy, my fingers were so freakin' cold that I couldn't hardly bend them, pull risers or any other CRW specific hand demand.

Doing CRW, you have to wear long sleeves, long pants, socks, gloves, etc. While it may feel hot as hell on the ground and on the ride to altitude, it's wonderful once you're out the door!
