Brains 2 #3 March 25, 2006 I haven't been to the smith in many, many years. However, last time i was in DC, my host said they have a new air and space museum out a ways from the city? I would hit that at least a day. Natural history for a half. And some of the others too. Good thing is most are within walking distance of each other. Have fun and take pics. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
jonstark 8 #4 March 25, 2006 IO really enjoyed the patent museum. As I recall it is in the original Smith building or the red brick castle looking one on the Mall. Lots of fun gizmos and inventions. Easy to get thru in a couple of hours. jon

Ashtanga 0 #6 March 25, 2006 I was in D.C. last weekend. Hence why I didn't go to Dublin. Nice city to visit but I would not want to live there. Rent is high as hell.
SpeedRacer 1 #7 March 25, 2006 DEFINITELY go to the new Native American museum!! It's really good! And eat lunch in the cafeteria: They've got the food divided into like 5 different Indian cultures. Really cool! Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles airport in Northern Virginia... 32 miles from the Smithonian in DC. I've heard that it has a skydiving exhibit... from everyone that I have ever met that has been there. I live four miles away and haven't made it there yet. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday. NWFlyer 2 #10 March 25, 2006 In 2-3 days you'll barely scratch the surface... I'd say pick two museums and focus on them rather than trying to hit all of them. Haven't been there in years (it's been 10 years since I lived in that area) but spent a lot of time there growing up. My faves: Air & Space (and that's kind of a no-brainer that a skydiver has to go there). I haven't been to the new annex near Dulles yet. American History - really cool, fun stuff in here. Natural History - They've got dinosaurs and stuff! How can you go wrong? And, believe it or not, I thought the Postal Museum was fun, in a geeky sort of way. While you're wandering around the Mall, be sure to at least poke into the Hirshhorn's sculpture garden. If it's a nice day it's a nice outdoor alternative to all the indoor time in museums. Oh, and it's not the Smithsonian, but the National Gallery of Art's pretty cool, too."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. sdctlc 0 #12 March 26, 2006 American History and Air and Space. The American history museam is amazing, but really so are the rest. I put Natural History 3rd. Dont forget the crapload of other things in DC history related.... 3 Days is not enough. I lived in the area growing up and through undergrad and I still always managed to find new to me cool stuff.... Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
