Peace Corps or teaching abroad

Recommended Posts

One more thing (yes, this is a topic I'm passionate about ).

Here is a set of posts about a former denizen of rec.skydiving who joined the Peace Corps and went to Kyrgyzstan.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

First Josh...just because you need to go to OZ to get a brain doesn't mean you need to pick on me...then again if I was a lollipop kid everyone would want to lick me :P

And Jeff...just because you have a messed up leg doesn't mean I won't mess up your knees to go with it :o:)

Brazil?? Who said anything about Brazil? I've been to Sao Paulo and Rio and Curitiba, and out of all of them, I'd live in Curitiba. Rio's too dangerous, and Sao Paulo is iffy too...

Chile and Argentina are cool - in Lima I'd have to live in Miraflores. B|

I studied in Santiago, Chile for 5 months. That is a great country but I would 100% recommend Argetina over it. The people are just easier on the eye there, plus shit is cheaper.

Thanks for posting that letter he wrote...it is such a hard decision to make! I would love to do it because I love helping people, I have nothing tying me down, not financially or otherwise but at the same time it is so huge. That and my parents are not thrilled about their little girl going somewhere else.

Thanks everyone for your replys. I am actually going to an infomational meeting Monday and I think I will go ahead and start the application process and go from there. Teaching abroad is still looking like the winner...even if it is volunteer teaching :)

Teaching ESL overseas is somthing that I've been wanting to do for many years, I'm certain that in 2009 when I take a year off I'll be out there with my CELTA working my way around the globe:)

I used to know a girl who was going to join the PC and after six years of service she would have had a masters in whatever PC has to offer. That may not have been a bad program. Maybe move on to the UN or something..........She got knock-up during Rita hurricane, and well, ended that plan!:D:D:D:D:D

My brother spend 2 years in Nepal. PM me if you wish and I will hook you up with him. It's been several years ago but he loved it.

I just finished a book a month or so ago about a woman who taught in Nepal for 5 years.....she loved it and it was a great read. She was not with PC though.
