Container and main combo?

Hi guys, im looking for my first rig and have been looking for used gear but cant really find anything in the right size. So im thinking of buying a new container and looking for used canopies and cypress. Im still new to the sport so I want the container to last me a while. A 190 main will be about a 1.0 wl for me. I heard that 1 size up can be squeezed into a container if its a small packing canopy. So would it be a good idea to get a container made for a 170 and use a 7 cell (spectre) 190 main? Gear is expensive so I want something that will last a few years at least. Any input would be appreciated!

I suggest going to the container manufacturer's website(s) and checking there to see what size canopies they say will fit in what size containers. Most manufacturers will list that kind of stuff, along with if the canopy will fit in "tight", "normal", or "loose".

I was in basically the same boat as you recently, I wanted a container that would last a while because I decided to buy new. I recommend calling the manufacture and just talking to them. I bought wings and before I bought I called them and they said my pilot 168 would be a tight but reasonable fit in their W-9 container. That way it will really optimally fit a 150 when I go to that, and fit a 135 without being unsafe.

So basically just call them and ask, whichever container company you choose should be very helpful, a lot of people do this because no one likes buying a new container every time they get a new canopy.

I woudl probably not buy new if you are new to the sport and there is a lot of great great used gear out there. Ones I like are vector 3, mirage, voodoo, wings, and infinity. Spectre is a great canopy and plenty of used ones out there.

Yea I was thinking of a new container and used everything else. Seems to be the best way to go without paying a lot for everything.
