wildcard451 0 #6 March 29, 2006 Bullshit. We're all base animals. Acting on survival instinct we will do things that are considered bad by the morality we have imposed upon us by society. To believe that anyone is inherently good is a fucking joke.
SarahC07 0 #7 March 30, 2006 When given those options, I'll say bad. I took a philosophy course... we discussed this... but I don't remember why or where we sited philosophers or anything... so, yeah, maybe I'll get around to looking it up.
swedishcelt 0 #8 March 30, 2006 Both. Yin and Yang. "The mark of a man is not measured on how well he handles his success but on well he's able to cope with failure." We prove our goodness by how we react to the bad. It is the test of our character.

jimmytavino 16 #10 March 30, 2006 i dunno about people whom i do not know... but when look at my family members around our breakfast table.... I see good.. evidence????..... our children have manners, are considerate, respect others, and understand right from wrong. Evidence??? i have a cancelled check written to uspa, a year or two ago,, not for me... more evidence???? My friend who is a TM invited me on a skydive, ( my # 1 tandem jump, after 3,000 solos) back last summer.. when i was on the "disabled list ".... as for those who are inherently bad....well shame on them,,, they should know better.... and should change.... Life takes work,,,, and part of that work includes respect for others...(and for ouselves) We are an intelligent animal.. so no cop outs,, by saying,,,"well bad is built-in" "so we don't have to do anything about it"... As E.T. the extraterrestrial reminded Elliot,,,,, " BE GOOOOOD "..... and that's some solid advice. hahahaha jmy
friendofGod 0 #11 March 30, 2006 regardless of how hard it may be sometimes, I try to find the good in everyone and even though you have to look hard sometimes, everyone has some good in them. bertusgeert 1 #13 March 30, 2006 You know, considering the evidence provided, I will have to say that the good in people sometime surprises me! But then, you get George Bush and Dick Cheney. All evidence anyone can possibly provide for the "good human argument" is now rendered useless. I just effectively moved this thread to Speakers Corner to see how all of those philosophers will respond. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! lawrocket 3 #18 March 30, 2006 I believe people are inherently selfish, and that kids are a perfect example of it. As infants, they want the boob, they want mommy, and they make it known if they don't get their way. Along come tots and toddlers, who are known for their activities, i.e., the "terrible twos." Kids will scream, fight, hit, bite, throw tantrums, etc., if they do not get their way. It is at this point that kids need to be developed and shown how to properly interact. For that, there are rules developed. This is not to say there is no good. Kids and babies can be very sweet and nice, even altruistic. It shows there is some of that. We have ourselves a system of rules and laws because something needed to be done to control the "badness" that dwells within the human psyche. Honestly, do you think that we would have all of these rules and laws if people were inherently good? They'd be unnecessary. My wife is hotter than your wife.
